ALERT--WASHOUTS ON MEX.1 TODAY!!! (2/12)
Just heard Doug Moranville on Let`s Talk Hookup with a road report. If you`re planning to go today, give it a rest a day or so. Doug said people are
spending the night in their rigs with washouts at Cativina and a spot north of there. Doug was driving his Suburban and drove thru Catavina, but
needed a semi to tow him thru the other bad spot. Said hundreds of cars are waiting to cross at Cativina.

Da nada Senor Bufeo. Hope your friends have an easy and safe passage. I`m sure it will be one of war stories and mucho carnage!!! And I mean car-nage,
as in a few floaters that didn`t make it
thru the high water.
This was from a report I heard about 7:30am today. I know Doug and know he was traveling from his pad in Punta Chivato. So his account of Cativina
probably was from Fri. afternoon (2/11). Hopefully all is clear now and all travel is flowing.
A few other things he said here. He said the heaveist rain was in Muleje and San Ignacio.
AND--- Mike of San Marcos Isl. caught yellows of 37 and 38lbs. last week. Also good on the cabrilla and grouper.
So sounds like fishing is great (wind permitting) and the Elephant Trees and Ciros and Cholla are in hog heaven!!!!

I guess we were just lucky,,,
We drove north in the scattered rain from Bahia Concepcion last Thursday morning (2/10).
We got a late start and left about noon...pulled off the road below Santa Rosalia to use our new TelCel cheapo phone as we picked up the signal...went
to start the Bronco when we were finished, and nada - nothing...our battery was DEAD! El Crapo...pulled out the jumper cables and the first car by,
stopped to give us a 'jump'...it was an old pick-up (like Mike's POT) with a wrinkled Gringo driving...he laughed like hell with I told him I was in
'the Battery Business'!
We boogied into Santa Rosalia and bought a new alternator...the REAL problem...we were running on the battery and the alt wasn't charging. Had to
also buy another battery, as I didn't want to ruin the new alternator trying to recharge our dead one! Pulled off on the beach north of SR to drag
out my tools and change the )^_**%% old alternator!
ANYWAY, it rained lightly on us all day and into the evening...it was dark by the time we got up to Catavina, and I drove very carefully as we
descended into the first Vado south of town - just a 'trickle' of water - like normal...also the same at the northern Vado. Apparently the rain was
still soaking into the ground, and didn't start to run off till later.
We carefully watched the Vados on the way into El Rosario for run-off, but didn't have any problems. We reached E.R. at about 9:00 PM and the highway
through town was coated with Mucho MUD!!! The old Bronco got coated, big time! We had to wade through the sticky stuff to get into Momma Espinoso's
for a nice crab cake dinner - yummy.
We stayed again at Antonio's Baja Cactus Motel (room #103 is nice & quiet) for $300 NP. Great place if you haven't been there. It was cold Thursday
night, so we had lots of blankets on the beds.
As others have mentioned, with all this wet-stuff, Baja has gone GREEN ! It was really beautiful, and I'm sad we had to drive so much in the dark due
to our Alternator problem, and missed even more of the 'Green-stuff', especially around Cativina.
We drove in the rain all day Friday (2/11) up through Baja, crossed the border around 9:00 PM (1/2 hr wait). Drove in rain, heavy at times, up
through north of LA where we stopped for a snooze. I think we saw at least 5 separate spin-outs on I-805 heading north! The Highway wasn't draining
very well in spots, and cars were aqua-planing around like crazy, and still trying to drive 75-80 MPH! It was almost a surreal experience, as you
would see cars facing the wrong way up against the center barrier, or off shoulder - and NO Cops around - spooky - I hope those people survived, as we
even saw one SUV with it's lights OFF, facing the wrong way!
We talk about high water in Baja Vados, and I think it was much scarier in Alta California on the Interstates in the rain!
