Moving from Florida to Baja - looking for advice on finding Apt o Casa

Previous expat (Yucatan), San Diego resident, and frequent Baja Traveler (years ago) now living in Florida. Planing Sept. move to North Baja (Ensenada? Tecate? La Mision? Or?) Could use advice on how/where to find a small apartment or house for just me and my dog. Previously lived in a Colonia in the Yucatan on the Mexican economy for 3 years. Looking for something affordable, clean, safe - priced consistent with SS retirement income.

Mood: I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

I would start with the Tijuana Craigslist section. It covers quite a bit of the area you are talking about.

The Tijuana Craigslist is good.

Here's another website that has a lot of listings.

Are you going to enter Mexico to live as a tourist, Temporary Resident or a Permanent Resident?

Long-terms are much cheaper than daily, if you check mitula and craig's.

Old tricks again and again, price MXN 2,500 with no explanations could mean anything from USD 2,500 per week - to MXN 2,500 per weekend - to MXN 2,500 per month (but to get it that low you need to sign up for 6-12 months).

For SS income it will be likely a "room", or part of a house with a separate entrance. Especially if you want it close to urban centers.

As one who has made the move to Baja:

The best advice we can give you is to first move to Chula Vista/Imperial Beach area near the border.
Then cruise the Tijuana Craig's list for ads of what is available. You may also cruise the Facebook pages (there are several). Just type the area you are thinking of moving to in the search criteria.

Depending on your lifestyle:
Water, about 100 Pesos a week
Electric: about 600 Pesos every other month
Phones: WWW and cell 400 pesos a month
Rents: La Mision will be the highest, about $600+ USD per month, Playas de Tijuana will be the lowest at about $250+ USD per month.
Groceries: About $40.00 USD per week.
