Now, let's talk Septic!

I am going through the planning/drawing stages of our future home in San Felipe, and need this information: Is there a septic "pump out" service in or about town? I read in the OLD journals (!) of BajaNomad awhile back ago, that San Felipe has Sewage sanitation system. Does it indeed deliver the treated waste to the desert, and not to the Sea? Is this true? One thing I hate, that is to lay waste to the land for which we thrive on. I am gathering information on the sewage, so that I can design an environmentally friendly system to the house. Oh?and I hate to swim in my own chit!

I live in a small coastal town that has only on site septic systems...and I'm an elected director of the district that monitors and regulates them...so, over the years, and a few short courses at the University of Washington, I've learned more than anyone (not an engineer) would ever want to know about septic systems. Properly designed and maintained they are environmentally way more sound than a sewer and sewage treatment plants.
If you are designing a system, here's a resource that might be of help. This is their website, and you can subscribe to their quarterly...Small Flows.
Good luck with your project.

Yes, there is a service. I am not sure if it is the same for all beachfront property but those south of town, and on the beach, are not allowed to install septic systems. They are required to have holding tanks that must be pumped out. We live north of town and have individual septic systems on our lots. I have been here fulltime since 1998 and part time two years before that and I have not heard of anybody with individual septic systems who have needed their septic systems pumped out yet.
