Passport Expiration Date
Any issues with a Passport expiring in 4-5 months, re: getting
a 180 day fmm? Does Mex Imm require that the Passport is
valid for another 6 mo. as some countries require, before
issuing a Tourist Card?
Thanks for your time

They will not (officially) give you an FMM for longer than the passport is valid. Let us know if they do!

If you haven't applied for your passport yet, make sure you get the passport card also.
It is quite handy.....

The card is also good for crossing the Us Canadian border, and it is worth the $60 cost not to have to carry the book all the time.
I believe it will be accepted as ID for domestic flights (but not international) when my Alaska ID no longer qualifies next year.

susan,
for those w/o sentri, the passport card is great as it gives them access to the ready lanes.

$60 ? Heck the last time I got my card it was an extra $10
I still think it's worth it as it is a great form of identification which allows me to NOT carry my passport around.

Typically, how much shorter is the Ready lane vs the regular lane?
By the way, around a month ago my renewal for my passport was in around 5-7 working days paying the regular renewal amount, not the expedited.

Passport card
One of the few times I was asked to show 3 forms of Id. I pulled out my passport card and the asking person said that's all I need to see there's
nothing better than that card.

Last several times I have crossed N/B at Otay, the regular lanes were almost as quick as SENTRI, the Ready Lanes had a huge backup

You're probably right. I think $60 is the stand alone price, without the book.

I just got a 180 day visa last week and my passport is under 6 months for expiration. I told them I will have a new one within 2 months and they said
no problem and gave me the visa. I think it was about 30 or 35 dollars now.

"No passport card needed???"
Very bad advice, very bad indeed.
The best part about having the card.... you always have it in your wallet on your person, always have proof of citizenship, always have ability to
cross the two land borders.
For the cost it is the best investment Uncle Sugar offers!!!

Goat, I don't know why you don't know, but it is Bob who is on here... Susan is busy keeping the pool nice!
Bob, the card is like only $30 additional when you get a new book. I have both, but use the book for Mexico because it gets stamped... Can't stamp a
card!

It definitely varies. I've gone through the Ready Lanes a couple of times in the last year when the wait was a little over half of the wait in the
regular lanes. This was when I was at San Ysidro with my SENTRI card but carrying a non-SENTRI passenger, and the pedestrian wait was really long.
Lucked out with the Ready Lanes.

yup///a card in your pocket ALL THE TIME
lets track the people ALL THE TIME
you don't carry your passport all the time so the govt has a hard time tracking you
they can if they try
but if you have the card in your pocket you are trackable all the time
just wait till they "chip" you like a dog
your new car is already trackable

Susan,
Perhaps we will come to like tracking, after we get accustomed to it
For example, As senility sets in, you might appreciate that your nurse or local popo can track you down when you are forgetful and wander, eh?

For the privacy nuts: Best place to keep your chipped cards is under your tin foil hat or inside your tin foil undies
