This really is the greatest show on earth. I spent 30 delightful years going to the RNAR (Reno National Air Race). If you like speed, big engines....like a Rolls-Royce Merliin...this is the place for you. You should get a pit pass that puts you in among the pilots and mechanics as they get ready to race at 500 MPH for the Unlimited birds but slower for the others.....still great fun.

Then there are The Blue Angels (or the Thunderbirds in an off year...go NAVY), groupies, half nekid hot chicks, good food, and noise.

Bring money and wear a hat. Your wife and/or feminine Boss can sit in the stands while you travel around looking for astronaughts, famous pilots, some non current movie stars like Eastwood.....Snoop Dawg won't be there.

We liked it so much we even had a "ski house" up at Truckee for post race booze and bbq with old pilots...:-)!!

Go.

Totally agree BB! You describe the atmosphere very well. I also have been going for years and this race is at the top of my list yearly every September. Have several pilot friends that race there. Nothing like the sound of a 4000hp V 12 Merlin powered P51 screaming by in front of your nose at 50 feet going around 500mph. I have a hanger at Stead so I get 6 free pit passes for the “inconvenience” of the airport being shut down for a week during the races, and it is fun getting a closeup of the airplanes, crews, and pilots, and eye candy running around that is typical of all kinds of racing.

Visiting the Reno Air Show is on my bucket list. I watch the air races on Red Bull TV, worldwide, some amazing pilots flying some amazing machines.
