Lightweight Portable Beach Shade Ideas
We are flying to Cabo and taking a bus to Los Barriles this fall and would like to hear your ideas for lightweight and portable beach shade.
There will be six in our group so just hanging up a beach towel won't make the cut.
Some threads for folks heading to Burning Man in Nevada recommend using shade cloth. The wind can pass through shade cloth so it is better for cooling
off than a tarp.
What do you think about setting up a modified A frame with shade cloth, a couple collapsible poles, some rope, and bags filled with sand instead of
stakes.
I would rather not spend $200 on something like the Big Agnes Three Forks Shelter, see link below.

what about a used spinnaker or light sail and some collapsible poles and light line....forget the stakes...you can find rocks or make a sandbag.
But for flying, perhaps the best thing is to just buy some poles for dirt cheap at a segunda(second hand store)....in fact you can probably buy a
shade unit for cheap and just donate it to someone you like down there when you leave....find out where the mexican segundas are and visit the first
day you get there.

Tarp and collapsible poles....bags for sand (stakes) cuz there aren't always rocks around....lots of parachute-type cord....
Tarp: not poly stuff ...look at these scout/guide tarps ideas....:

Silicone coating not needed for dry weather conditions...
And wind is your only challenge....aside from sand in your margs...

Used to be called a 'para-wing' tarp, used 'em on the river for years, still got one in perfect condition 30 yrs old now. Lightweight, rolls up like
a small tent, can fit 6 - 8 people under. Also can attach one corner to your vehicle or nearest tree, etc.
I don't have a BUCKET LIST, but I do have a F***- IT LIST a mile long!

If you just wan a simple shelter for a day of swimming at the beach, look at Lightspeed. Cheap beach shelters, light, easy setup. Will fit in your
checked luggage.
People telling you to buys poles and tarps (or army surplus parachutes) and ropes don’t realize your little rental car is not a truck with rack to
carry 1,000 pounds of gear and toys, and you don’t want to spend day 1 of your vacation running around to segundas and hardware stores when you
should be playing on the beach.

If you're staying at a hotel or rental casa, ask the caretaker if they have some beach umbrellas you can borrow. Many people leave them behind, and
the management usually loans them out. Same with beach chairs. Alternately, go to Walmart, La Comer, Home Depot or Costco and pick up a few, and be
the guy who pays it forward.

Uhhhh.... 1000 lbs ?????
Your suggested Lightspeed weighs 7 lbs and measures 40" x 6" packed.....too long for carry-on? Collapsible poles are about that length...
These units are a wind scoop more than a tarp is when set up and don't provide shelter for more than 1-2 folks....and the collapsible pole system is
prone to failure over time...
Great for a calm beach ....took my similar unit back and replaced with tarp and poles....more applicable uses...

Are you planning on accommodations somewhere? Or, just going "homeless, Mexican style" with a group of 6? Perhaps the hotel/condo has some
umbrellas? Or, it can be arranged with enough notice?
For some reason, I picture 6 people just getting dropped off by bus in Las Barriles to fend for themselves, suitcases in hand. I'm sure that's not
the case.

A friend of mine has the Neso Tent.
Really nice on the beach , packs down very small.
You fill four bags with sand instead of using tent stakes and the wind seems to go right through it.
