Matomi 3-16-18
Matomi 3-16-18
Sidewinders club trip. An assortment of rigs. SUV, Jeeps, ATV, Beetle, sand rail and another buggy. Don’t remember the count. A pretty big group.
Pics show some of the hard places at the narrows, and more pics at Rancho Matomi. The pools look pretty gross and were full of moss.
The route of the day was El Dorado-Morelia Junction-East valley road-Valley Chico- into Matomi- to Rancho Matomi-Lunch- Then downhill thru Matomi to
Highway 5.
No significant issues at the narrows. One rig had tire falloff the rock and we stacked so more rocks and he drove thru.

Makes a world of difference when you are with other vehicles and loads of friends for spotting and pushing!
Thanks for the photos! Matomi has been a goal of mine since learning about the waterfall in 1967 and 10 years later I first drove in. Our Matomi group
trips of President's Day weekend, 2001 and 2004 were great fun.

I wanted to go in 2001, but I had to save $$ that month for a big event happening two months later. In early 2004, I was busy setting up (at the
time) the largest Jeep club in California history.

Not to fear, photos of both are on www.vivabaja.com
In 2001we camped at El Camote's place in El Dorado Ranch. We saw the Sulfur Mine, Nuevo Mazatlan, & Shell Island on Saturday and did the Matomi
Canyon run on Sunday:

2004: Shell Island on Saturday and Matomi via Parral (Azufre Wash) and the Sulfur Mine on Monday morning. We camped at Nuevo Mazatlan. It was very
cold that night! Photos: http://www.vivabaja.com/204/

How true - stuck is usually the rule on these rock strewn passages.
Your bottle jack is your best friend for those darn rocks. Its surprising how many times I have had to use mine for the others that did not have one.
