Did it about a year ago, last November. Very easy drive at that time.

Did it in 2017, documented it in Trip #2 here on Nomad Trip Reports forum.
A report made in 2018 indicate the climb and drop up/ down the mesa between Palo Chino and El Horno still best done in a 4WD vehicle. The rest of the
road was easy 2WD stuff.

Great Phil... and here is a page from my guide on that road:
Will you go further... San Miguel ComondĂș (for the boutique motel there) or La PurĂsima?

I drove it in November. Generally good condition but the long climb up the mesa starting about 10 miles in from the San Javier road needed 4wd and
low range for a short distance.

Thanks Kurt. Good to know the conditions from 2017 are unchanged. If anyone drives Baja's back roads, please share conditions with us.

Some friends and I went from San Juanico to Loreto passing through Comondu on side x sides a little over two weeks ago. The roads were in really good
condition. The steep section out of Comondu was still steep and rocky but very passable in a 4x4,
2 WD could probably make it also.
Planning on trying the road from San Isidro to Mulege in a couple of weeks, looking forward to that..

Well, it was a great trip. Easily passable with 4wd and a little clearance. The heart of the Gigantas is beautiful along with Comondu.
Spent a night in Lopez Mateos and home today along Hwy 1.
All great.
