In the 1951 AAA guide, it said Canipolé had just one building and it was a post office!
The next AAA guide I have is the 1959 edition and in it Canipolé was just a ranch (but as before, located at the junction with the road to Loreto).
Ralph Hanc-ck (with Mike McMahan, Ray Haller, and Frank Alvarado) mentions Canipolé in his 1953 book (Baja California) but only as much as he gave a
ride to a man from nearby Rancho Rosarito to there.
Max Miller in his 1943 book The Land Where Time Stands Still writes about getting his truck from Concepcion Bay to Comondú. The auto road was just
recently made along the cliffs above the bay. It was only one lane wide then and had some switchbacks that required backing up a few time to
negotiate. The road and then the beauty of Comondú had him skip any mention of either Rosarito or Canipolé, the two ranches south from the bay.

Perhaps it is a family name and may not have any other meaning.

From the 1959 travel story book, 'Mexico's Diamond in the Rough' by O.W. Timberman... Several pages on Canipolé, or more so on the man and his
family...

Anybody else have more on Canipolé or Señor Toba?
Or, is it actually Señor Murillo?

That sounds very cool.
Please post pics if SR Canipole is ok with it.

Here are some photos of the Canipolé restaurant. Canipolé is not a family name. Owner Sofia said the restaurant is named after the cave painting
site north of Loreto. Canipolé is a Cochimí word, and they don't know what the word means.
Harry Crosby wrote a few lines about the "fine painted wall south of Rancho Canipolé." (page 179 of his cave painting book).
