What if I want to do a race?
That's the question, what if I want to do a race in my can am side x side?
Nothing crazy like the 1000 (either one), something somewhat local to Punta Chivato. Preferably not needing a chase truck, but doable if needed. Who's
got the low down?

Oh I understand that, I've road raced motorcycles and go karts and dirt bikes over the years.
I'm looking to do a sportsman type race, something short, like a one day only race. Was hoping someone on here would have info on something local.

There was some guy a few months back that was in some kind of "sportsman" race. It was some kind of self paced adventure tour?

Loreto 400
Douglas,
Every September in Loreto we have the Loreto 400. They have a utv class you could enter.

I think you would be better getting a couple of other vehicles together and plan an off road adventure run. Like a loop run from Mulege to Mission
Guadalupe to San Jose de Magdalena. There is a posting on Nomad that the trail is open. Maybe camp near the mission.
Races cost an entry fee plus pits etc. save your money and buy beer for the trip. If you must race a Poker Run would probably be your best bet.

You may enjoy finding a local race team and offer to help do prep and support with them and you can learn about the course and pickup tips and
hopefully make friends with mechanics and chase team who can support you in a future race.
If you are serious you should build a budget, plan, prep, schedule, practice and build your team to do the event, tune the utv, buy spare parts,
trailers, support rigs, hotel reservations etc.

Go volunteer at a pit and get your hands dirty first. You can see what the vehicles look like after running a race.
Baja Pits is a big, well-run pitting organization that sets up pits at all the popular Baja races.
Besides Score, there is Code and at least one more Mexican race organizer in Baja Norte.
TW helps out with Mag 7, another pitting group, and can tell you more. BFG is a huge pitting organization for those that run BFG tires.
In 1978, I was camping along the Baja 500 course and began chatting with a pit team set up near me and I got invited to hold a fire extinguisher when
the racers pulled up. That was the Los Campeones Racing Team pit... I would become one of their pit captains for races in Baja and the Parker 400 in
the U.S. (1978-1982) and in November 1979, was a co-driver in one of their memeber's race cars for the Baja 1000.

Record racing good place to start. Take notice racing side xside. They break very easy and very expensive to repair

With AGE comes a CAGE.
Have FUN, be SAFE and try to finish (which is the hardest part about racing)
