I believe that if you have a passport you're covered. Anybody know different?

That is correct. If you have a passport you do not need a real CA ID/Drivers license. I got one anyway when it was due in March.

For us golden, blessed residents of the greatest state in the union, California! (uber alles!), we can request a REAL-ID when we renew our drivers
licenses. California has been issuing compliant drivers licenses for a while, but you have to specify you want it at the time you renew.
for you californians that "live" (yeah, right) in South Dakota, I don't know how you are going to game the system now. States require proof of
residency to issue REAL-IDs.

SD has been issuing RealID's for several years now (over 5 yrs IIRC) as have other States. California has been behind the curve on this and is still
playing catch-up.
If your license has a star inside a gold circle on it then it is RealID compliant. And if you have any sort of passport document then you don't need a
RealID to travel.

The "Real ID' was not available in Alaska when I renewed my drivers license in late October 2018. They started issuing them on Jan 2, 2019, so I may
get the new version, although I carry a passport card, and have a passport book as well.
There is no requirement to verify an Alaska permanent residence to obtain a real ID, or license here. There are a lot of seasonal, and oil industry
workers that need an AK DL for their jobs, but commute from other states.

actually check with your state, some states issue compliant DL's that don't have the star......anyone tried to get an FMM with one yet?

My CA RealID drivers license does not have a star in a circle, the star in on the rear side of a gold bear on the upper right corner of the license.

Passport card?
I recently renewed my passport and also got a passport card. Not sure what it's used for but what about for domestic flights instead of the new DL?

You couldn’t hack it in California, you are a disgruntled loser that fled California after failure. So your opinion does not count!
Peace out!

Bumper to Bumper ?
Rotting in Place ?
Not where I live.
Or drive.
Other than once in awhile on I-10.
And, a lot of that is AZ and NV license plates who (apparently) find some reason to be in CA.

US Passport not accepted as valid ID in USA
Slightly OT - can anyone think of a reason a current US Passport is not accepted as valid ID by a US-based company??
In this case the company is a cryptocurrency exchange.

US passport in lieu of a REAL ID will be the norm of the future for most legal transactions.
BTW. Lack of REAL ID in the future also precludes entry or interaction with any U.S. Govt facility or entity.
This Obama era action was so potent, its implementation was delayed until FY 2019.
