GAIA Q. turn it off? paging JZ and other knowledgeables

Ok guys,
downloaded Gaia onto my Ipad, getting ready for a cross country trip. It seems really slow - and struggles to keep up with my location, particulalry in loading the maps - but its at topo level, so maybe I need to back out for traveling in the truck. but that could be me behind the learning curve.

A big plus: it already contains the 1100 miles of trails for the Michigan Cross Country Cycle Trail! Thats our goal, we plan on riding the whole thing this summer (did it 10 years ago, , older weaker , but still as stupid - we try it again!) anyway, no need to load in those files - thats a huge relief for me!

How the heck do you turn it off once you aren't using it? I reopen the ipad 4 hours later, and it says Gaia is still actively monitoring my position. can't find a shutdown switch anywhere!

Any chance your still recording a trip?
Look at settings and map downloads, it will start downloading maps every time opened up if you don’t change settings.
