Alfonsinas

Considering a stay at Alfonsinas sometime in February and looking for some feedback on how they are now. I kind of miss the way they were and am hoping they got back their old friendly ways and the good food back.

Haven't been for about 3 years. It wasn't like it was just 6-7 years ago. Or even remotely close to how it was when we first visited by boat circa 2002.

2002 we came to shore in the dingy. Without asking, the main guy let us drive his pickup to the Rancho Grande market for supplies. Helped us arrange for gas to be delivered from the beach to the boat.

It was very friendly 6-7 years ago. 3 years ago, not so much.

The place is an incredible spot though. If you want to go to Gonzaga you should give it a go. Just have your expectations set right - maybe that's what got me.

Lots of reviews about alfonsinas on this board. Some good some bad. Use the search on the board and judge for your self. Other options available. Trying to keep the board a positive place😉

Instead of asking someone to do a search, how about giving your experience and opinion?

So, you are saying that bad reviews are not allowed, and don’t ask stupid questions,...

Love the place before the road was paved. Now the prices are high and the service is lacking. Last I stayed it was a $100 a night for a room without towels or soap. The location is still amazing and a good stop for a beer when headed south.

I am there a couple of times each year for the last 20 years. I was there last month. My view is the quality of what you get is not worth the amount they are charging. It is still a great place but I prefer to support families in Baja that charge a fair price for there services. The new highway has brought big changes

I agree with the sentiment above. Not what it used to be and overpriced. Usually don't even stop for lunch anymore as the food quality has declined too.

The days of Antonio as the host and Irma in the kitchen are long gone.
I will always appreciate how he gave Baja Angel a margarita when we walked in and he greeted us like old friends in Jan. 1, 2005. It was Elizabeth's first time there (our first Baja date). I would be surprised if he remembered me, other than the Viva Baja sticker that was there for the previous 4 years. My kids and I were there for Thanksgiving in 2002 and 2003... staying at Brandi's place (Cantina de Floyd) at Alfonsina's.

Remember, that now with the pavement comes all kinds of people!

Antonio was an excellent host and smart business man. Not sure what happened with him but it hasn't been the same sense he has left! I hope that one of the other places at the south end of the bay will step it up with rooms and a restaurant! It would be a nice stop to break up the ride back North rather then going all the way to San Felipe!

actually when Malcolm arrived he was entertaining the idea of building an off road themed hotel but nothing came of it.....maybe now he's eyeing a golf course instead?

Funny reviews from people complaining about no power outlets in the rooms... DUH, they are off-grid and there's no electricity there beyond what they generate using solar for the lights and maybe AC.

Is the wind turbine still used? I thought they outgrew that noisy propeller when they made the solar plant? LOL

We have been sending them a message by not going there for 3 years now. Maybe if more of us did they would get the message.

I am going there for a week in October, and will provide an accurate report. I have been going there for over a decade, and love the location. Not crazy about the inclusive meal deal. I hope they will still cook my fish!
