Puerto Nuevo restaurant...which one?
My honey and I are going to Pyramid Resort for the weekend to celebrate our ONE year wedding anniversary! I LOVE the baja lobster and have visited
Puerto Nuevo LOTs of times, but always have a hard time deciding which restauant to go to. Does anyone have a favorite they can suggest? Back in the
day (long time ago) we used to go to the ORIGINAL Ortegas, now I am not sure where that is??? I always notice a huge line at one restaurant that is
located at the north side, and wondered what all the fuss is about, is it worth the wait? One of the last times we frequented that area we ate lobster
at La Fonda and it was excellent. I heard they have new owners, anyone have an opinion on their lobster these days? Price is a factor, but really just
looking for great atomsphere, margies and lobster! Thanks for the tips!

Bajagato, if it were me and this was my first year wedding anniversary - I would go to La Fonda for sure. The atmosphere is perfect for an occasion
like that and the food is always outstanding (it has been every time we've gone there anyway). Just my opinion. Let us know what you decide and how
the lobster was when you get back.

La Fonda is much better (for lobster) than any place in Puerto Nuevo.

Disagree on La Fonda/lobster
The size is no different than what you will get in PN, but the price is much higher per bug.
Go to PN during the week, if possible. Much better deals....listen to the guys hawking their restaurants; the deals vary considerably.
I have tried about 7 places in PN and our favorite continues to be Chela's, even after it's move into the larger digs. Part of it is the free-flowing
guacamole and salsa that is included at no charge. Better than average frijoles, too, and it is one of the more lively places in PN.
I think my order would be:
-Chela's
-La Escondida
-PN Lobster House (the one with the line)
-place with the orange sponge paint job inside
-Original Ortegas
We hope to try them all eventually but there are many small ones. Still havent tried the new luxurious Ortega's that looks like an El Torito Grill.

I say La Fonda as well. After a killer meal you can walk down the steps to the wide sandy beach and walk it off a bit. The atmosphere and view is
better than PN. On weekend nights they have music and the sunset with c-cktails cant be beat. Check out the rooms while you are there. They are funky
and all a bit different and have awesome ocean views. We do a lot of weend trips down south and have stopped or stayed there many times.

I went to PN twice in the last month. I saw the line at the Numero uno the first time so we went over to the Perlita.
The price was $13 per plate. We got 3 halves each, bowl or rice and bowl of beans to share among us. It also included a free Margarita.
The second time we went we had more time and the line didn't seem long so we stood in line to see what the fuzz was all about. We got in after about
45 minutes. We ordered the lobster plate. We got only two halves each. Bean & Rice bowl and NO MARGARITA for $15.
The food didn't taste any better. So for my money and time I'll be going to La Perlita everytime althought I will be checking the Fonda out if no
lines.

I've lived within a half mile of Puerto Nuevo for 7+ years and have eaten there a grand total of 4 times. Three were because guests insisted on going.
The (small & getting smaller) lobsters are overcooked in lard and drowned in butter flavored oil. 50-75 cents worth of rice, beans and
tortias round out the meal. All for $9.95-$19.95. Sometimes you even get a fake margarita thrown in for free. Such a bargain!
I've been to Maine where they know how to do lobster. Puerto Nuevo doesn't have a clue.
