IDENTIFY this fish.....
The yellowtail-like fish was caught recently by my neighbor, Les, at San Nicolas. It was a salmon(red-orange) color when brought out of the water,
not silvery/green like an ordinary yellowtail. It was very good eating and tasted like a yellow...but what is it? The local guide didn't really know
what it was either, nor did any of us for sure. Maybe an albino yellowtail?
What say you, Baja Nomads...anybody know for sure or care to make a stab at this?

Looks like an Almaco Jack, aka Pacific Amberjack. I've caught them near Loreto. Can't tell from the picture, but they have a dark band through the
eye.

Maybe an amberjack after all...
Thanks for the input, guys.and we had thought that too, but the guide and locals didn't think it was an amberjack because of it's weird coloring when
in the water...kind of peach or salmon color.
But that's look like the best bet so far..Pacific amberjack with a coloration modification.

Wow, its getting to be a small world...
The local guide is my very good friend Chuey Bastida, VERY HIGHLY recommended if you want to fish Bahia San Nicolas. He has a new 25' super panga,
speaks quite a bit of English, and is just a genuinely good guy.
The fellow with arms expressing the question is my other good friend Bob Rodriguez from Oregon. Bob spends months each year at San Nicolas, and just
this year put a custom built all aluminum 25' panga on the beach. It is supposed to be a real fishing MACHINE.
Pompano, you've really put a smile on my face this morning.

Hey, my pleaure, vgabndo....my neighbor,Les, who is holding that mystery fish, told me about Chuey. I think I met him last year out fishing by Ille
del Fonso. Looking forward to seeing him and visiting San Nicolas again many times.

Several times I have taken a fish like that off of San Marcos and San Marcos Mike claimed that they were of the rainbow runner family. Little smaller
mouth and a little different shape than a yellowtail.
