Mulege, my second favorite city

Met an older gentleman in Loreto other day in grocery line. Asked where he was from. Said used to live in Mulege, but got tired of the "crime" and moved to Loreto. What the heck is he talking about?? He said something about was tired of getting "broken into"?????? That's second time now I've heard this in past year. Mulege residents. What is going on up there?? Is there not any law enforecement?? Please enlighten me.

We have badly hijacked a most serious post

In closing, I'd just like to pay my respects to Alfred E. Newman who, in my recollection, first camp up with this humorous concept in Mad's Library of Extremely Thin Novels.

BTW, I still have an original hardbound copy of Kenneth Lay's classic "Ethics in Business-The Enron Model" that I would be willing to swap if anyone has Hugh Hefner's quintessential "Women's Guide to Winter Fashions". But it MUST be a first edition!!!!!:P

Getting back to the original thread...in a most roundabout way....

The law is still in force in Mulege and this usually quiet village is still a very safe and secure place to live. But be cognizant that the world in Baja is changing every year and adjust accordingly..as you would in Naknek, Alaska or Pengweno, Solomon Islands.

Also, I have it on strict authority that Pacifico is not, nor ever has been, sold at the Pelicano Reef Bar in the plaza. So there!:P

I have encountered high crimes...

and misdemeanors right there in down-town Mulege - right next to Los Pelicanos, to boot!!!

Upon returning from one of Val's great hamburgesa's (1/2 pounders - yum), I found our Bronco had been vandalized! Some local, mean spirited types had stolen all the valve covers off our wheels!!!:fire:

Now that's real CRIME - and right there in river city...really ticked me off - them valve covers were purple colored, annealed alum jobs I'd bought at Wal-Mart's close-out counter for a buck! should have known better...

And you're right - no Pacifico's for us weary types there at Los Pelicanos...boo, hoo...what is this world coming too?

Pompano....

I liked the way the original 'Pelicano' was painted! I think the 'exposed brick' - old time 'look' fit into Mulege's Plaza much better.

That new 'white-washed' building with the red openings just doesn't get it with me! Tecate probably chipped in to fund the new paint job, which then makes it even WORSE...I'll just have to switch to Ron y Coca's and swill my Pacifico's back on the beach...

Sorry Val & Pierce...the burgers are the greatest - but the new paint job sucks... :biggrin:biggrin:

Ok call me silly but reading between the lines (posts) I need to ask a simple yet Naive question coming from a very NEW member...
My husband and I are considering semi retiring to the Mulege area. He wants to continue working 3-4 months out of the year up in San Deigo, CA me I just want to enjoy the sun, culture, margarita's etc. The thing is while he is up in the states are my killer attack miniture schnauzer's and I going to be relatively safe?! Mind you I have survived Cabo in its crime ridden tourist season with two young children unscathed, but I think that Mulege is more our families style once the kids are actually moved out...if ever. Any real advise would be greatly appreciated.
