Article from May 4:

https://www.cbs8.com/article/news/local/us-mexico-border-age...

And, last sentence in article says "CBP data shows 56 agents in California have tested positive for coronavirus."

The guy should have just pulled down his mask for a second.

Sounds like the CBP overreacted too.

Sometimes we forget....
In the "Border Zone" all conventional rules are off.
Not a great place to be asserting "rights" that are not exactly the same as those away from the zone.
Yeah, sounds like a classic standoff on both sides.
But, betting your Sentri pass against an "attitude" is a lose/lose proposition.

I think that even if this guy gets his SENTRI pass re-instated, he probably will have his name on a list that could mark him for special attention in the future.

If CBP has a policy that agents must wear mask when interacting with customers, then the agent should be fired for not following policy, and complaining when customer pointed out that the agent was in the wrong.

In most work environments, not following rules for PPE use is grounds for firing.

In most work environments, all employees are required to say something when they see improper use of PPE or unsafe acts.

Personal Protective equipment
it is.

Protection is quantifiable for something real that will hurt you immediately

Prevention is quantitative and time is the only determinant if it prevented anything

Hopefully goat will mouth off to CBP one day, and they take him into secondary and slap him around a little.

Next time you interact with CBP, remind them of the following excerpts from their mission statement:

We serve the American people with vigilance,
integrity, and professionalism.

Integrity is our cornerstone. We are guided by the highest ethical and moral principles. Our actions bring honor to ourselves and our agency.

I try to remember to take off my sunglasses whenever I need to interact with someone, and you want to get things right the first try. That goes for north, and south of the border.

Even when I was "the good guy" as a ski patroller responding to an injury or skier down report, it was so much easier to communicate, and calm the patient when I took my sunglasses off!

The agents are trained to "read you" for deception, so mannerisms and eye contact are part of the deal. I arrive at the booth with my dark glasses off and my passport in hand. 90% of my crossings are quick and easy without secondary inspection.

If I was rolling up to a booth with a mask on, I'd ask the agent if he/she wanted me to take it off.

Someone refusing an order from a border agent to remove their mask deserves what they get. Agent's descretion to revoke SENTRI. His superiors will back his decision.

I seriously wonder what people are thinking in a situation like this.

I guess the driver was thinking about his own health. The agent was a m.oron to stand closer than 6ft without a mask. If 6ft distancing wasn't possible he at least should've put the mask on. Talking loud or yelling at the driver shows how really dumb he is because fine droplets spread farther then.

But the driver will be the one to suffer the consequences, losing his Sentri. Hopefully that idiot didn't infect him.

Wow pretty have a heavy handed opinion about CBP. I'm on the side of the border agent. Driver described as over weight and diabetic, and, in what I read, had an attitude. Driver is going to explain virus protocol to the agent? Wrong thing to do.

Opinions are good. Everyone has one. Border agents don't take shlt. Driver was told to remove mask. Driver refused. Driver lost SENTRI. End of stupid story.
