Trusted Traveler/Sentri

Well, after 14 months my application was finally approved.....I have had this program for 5 years already so I'm not sure what took so long to re-approve????

Anyways, tried to schedule an interview appointment at Otay and they are over a year out from today.....

So, This whole process of getting re-approved takes about 26 months!! Woah!

Jon :(

John, check Las Vegas. I know it’s further, but they were scheduling appointments months out last I checked (maybe 2 weeks ago).

Did your approval for re-newal say you needed an interview? I renewed in June and another interview was not required.

That's because your card was a replacement, you don't have to wait to be pre approved for replacements. I waited 10 months for preapproval for my Global Entry, and my interview is next June. This is even though I had a Sentri that expired after 5 years.

My Sentri process will be about 26 months after I go to the interview scheduled in February. This was for my 3rd extension. It took a year to receive an approval, then 2 cancellations by them on interview dates.

This is the reality of their process right now, but I too can't fathom why it takes so long to check a background. I have no criminal record, not even a traffic ticket in the last 30 years. Nothing else with me has changed since I applied for the first card. At least my Sentri card keeps working even though it has been expired.

Wow- did all these delays begin this year?

I applied for a Global Entry renewal in July last year (my SENTRI expired on my birthday in November) and received this confirmation about 2 weeks later with no mention of an in person interview requirement:

"We are pleased to inform you that your U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Global Entry program membership has been approved. You can begin using the program immediately.

Please visit www.cbp.gov/global-entry/about to review the program criteria for detailed information.

Your Global Entry membership number is ******. This number will also act as your Known Traveler Number for your TSA Pre-Check benefit. For more information on the TSA Pre-Check program please visit their web site at www.tsa.gov/tsa-precheck.

Thank you for applying to the CBP's Trusted Traveler Programs. Respectfully,
Director, Trusted Traveler Programs U.S. Customs and Border Protection"

I just logged into my account to verify everything is up to date and it all looks fine.

Not sure if Global Entry has a different track than Sentri, but My daughter just got her first Global Entry and it took four weeks, start to finish. Her interview at PHX was bumped up from mid February to this past Monday due to a cancellation. Otherwise it would have been five months.

Thanks. I figured I would check Calexico because I know you can get in there quicker but I didn’t realize they had a place in Vegas. Time for a little business road trip....:saint:

Indeed the approval said I needed to schedule an interview - which I didn’t know was needed on a renewal.

Oh well, what can I do? I guess call them but maybe there’s something they want to talk to me about in person!!!

My delay started early March 2019. Initially it was caused by the government shut down from what I remember.

It sure seems like GE is MUCH faster to get than SENTRI. Back in 2018 my partner got GE within 4 weeks, while it took me 6 months to get SENTRI.

May I add to this?

The SENTRI and GOES are under the same interview mandates. You may use your closet international airport for an interview. CBP at the border is not your only option.
