Tecate Border Hours Southbound

I apologize if this issue has already been beat to death, but I didn't find an answer to this specific question using the search function.

A friend is planning to cross into Mexico at Tecate today. I know that CBP closes their northbound operations at 2:00 p.m., but can one cross southbound into Mexico until the regular 11:00 p.m. closing time?

If it's like Mexicali East, the whole thing will be closed. Not likely they would leave Mexico in charge of not letting anybody slip thru going north on the southbound side.

Thank you for the replies, Bajazly and David. He's enroute now, and I doubt he'll arrive before 2, so he may have to detour through Tijuana. If he finds that Tecate's southbound hours are different, I'll post that info here.

Southbound Tecate Crossing is open until 11pm. I asked when I walked across last week to go to the dentist. The border guard/aduana told me that.
Lots of Tecate residents work in the US and cross South to return home in the evening.

Those are all US northbound crossing times. The original question in this post was for southbound crossings. They do not necessarily match US crossing times.

Interesting!
I had always seen both north and south matched, by International agreement.

that is interesting! I see no reason why they should match, which crossings don't?

The local trash company here in La Mesa, CA used to have a whole crew from Tecate that worked at the recycling plant, they crossed every morning and went home at the end of the day around 5pm. These workers would know the current hours southbound, but I doubt if any of them are posting on Baja Nomad. Most people that post on here have no reason to cross south at Tecate after 2pm.

Tecate Ray says he asked and the response was open southbound until 11pm.

What if you crossed at 1:55pm and learned of the fire at 2:05pm?

I bet you'd wish you had Sentri then.

My friend crossed into Tecate around 3:30 p.m., and was able to get his FMM and TVIP sorted by the helpful folks at Immigration/Aduana. He didn't think to ask how late the southbound crossing stays open, but it is pretty clearly open past the 2:00 northbound closing.
