Sentri vs Global Entry

I am hoping someone can shed some light on my Sentri question.
We (wife, myself and 2 kids) are currently owners of the Sentri pass, and they are all coming up for renewal. Does anyone know if there is an easy way to switch from Sentri to Global Entry? GE is $22.50 less than Sentri and GE offices are in LA, vs. Sentri in SD or Calixico. I don’t see any real difference between the two. It is coming up on our renewal dates, and last time we had to renew, we had to take the kids to the boarder for updated photos... that is a PIA. I expect this will be the case again.

If the kids are under 18 then Sentri is free. Global entry everyone has to pay.
