Violent Night in TJ.....
No scaremongering going on here. I've been coming and going as I please since '73 when my dad started taking me South for some fishing. Never had any
problems. "cartels try to avoid gringos; it's the druggies and opportunists who prey on tourists and expats.

I get pretty stressed out every time I have to drive through TJ.
Generally try to avoid it. Mexicali crossing is much better.

I feel the same way. Even back in the late 90's we started crossing @ Tecate in the early morning hours and hightailing it to GN. The Northern part
of Baja just started having a different vibe.

I agree. Years ago, I would specifically drive thru TJ in order to hit the taco stands before the long drive. Now I just put on a feed in Rosarito.

Tacos el Yaqui, in Rosarito, was such a great motivation to cross at Tijuana. Miss their giant tacos!

Rosarito was an absolute "must stop" for years,
Panaderia, gas, lots of places I knew that we could stock up on stuff
Couple of favorite restaurants.
But the last time I got hassled so bad by the local cops I swore never to take the turnoff again, and now it is just a quick toll stop and on to safer
places.
Sad, because I sure loved those fresh churros and bollillos...

Mexico certainly has a problem....no doubt the violence will escalate....
However, not too clear about his rant about USA minimizing the violence and related issues. Mexican corruption has formalized the cartels. Even Tecate
had bodies,
It's not really about the tacos.
Don't believe everything you think....

I have no issues driving or visiting Tijuana. I have friends that live there, too. I used to have fears but with time, I have come to enjoy the
city.

It was a longer rant than it needed to be to make his point. The speaker seems to conflate (been waiting to use that buzz word) rival cartel violence
with the current border immigration clusterfack.
I don't know if he has US citizenship, but he states that he is neither democrat, or republican. While mostly throwing mud at democrats' for calling
the situation a "challenge" instead of a crisis, he also goes after republican "rinos"
In the last minute or so, he calls out John Kerry as one of those republicans, so his credibility is a bit diminished!
for what it is worth, I can no longer view the clip without logging in!

I only cross TJ in the AM, well after sunrise, and go directly to the toll road driving the speed limit all the way. I am nervous as hell the whole
time - there are a lot of crazy drivers and a lot of police looking for cash.

TJ is the most international city in the west.
The cops can be managed by invoking your knowledge of the Sindictura system.
I told the last cop who tried to pinch me his wife is going to kill him if he loses his job. He threw my expired CA license(I always carry for just
this scenario) back at me, while my wife was gonna take his picture.
Like on the B-ball court when I was young, don't back down, turn it around on them and they will.

Tortas in Canatamar by the pedestrian bridge are to die for.
Sometimes you get to see the local cartel guys drive down from Primo Tapia with their caravans of Dodge Durangos and a single Lincoln Navigator. Just
keep eating your food and don't stare

CRAZY chit!!!!!!!!:
The CJNG is also believed to be responsible for recent attacks on rural fire stations in Tecate, forcing authorities to close all four. The criminal
group also allegedly abducted an ambulance paramedic and forced him to treat the wounds of a hitman injured in a gunfight with a rival cartel.
A fire chief in the town of Tecate told El Universal that a young firefighter in the community of La Rumorosa was captured and tied up by cartel
members who stole his car to make a getaway before dumping it and setting it on fire. In addition, a fire engine was recently riddled with bullets by
gunmen, leading firefighters to walk off their jobs.
“Nobody could guarantee our security. How can I send young men to work like that?” the fire chief said.
It is unclear why the presumed CJNG members have been directly targeting firefighters. One possibility is that they wanted to scare off all
authorities in the areas where they are seeking to operate with impunity.
Woke!

The Cartel shootings are increasing due to anyone that is arrested seems they are let right back out. It is best to be aware of your surroundings at
all times & that gut feeling you get that something is wrong best to get out of that location.
I have lived in Rosarito area for over 12 years fulltime but traveling around baja & mainland Mexico for over 50 years. I travel into Tijuana
numerous times but stay out of areas I do nit know or have local friends in.
We Boomers have lived in the best of times in the States & Mexico where you once could pull over just about anywhere & sleep without any
concerns but not now. Still a lot of Fun Times & Adventures out there just be Aware, Travel Safe & Avoid Arguements with strangers.
