For Elizabeth.....your book.

You requested any photos I might have about shrimp boat by-catches. Here are the first pics I could find right now...I will send more later as I find them. Would it have to be just shrimp boats by-catch? This photo is from 1974.

Good luck with the book and reports.

Thank you for the photo...I started thinking shrimp bycatch, but I am expanding the idea to any bycatch. How do you want me to credit your photos?

These maybe...they are by-catches of netters in the Bay of Conception

dozens of rays caught up in the nets...separated to be made into scallops, etc.

and the shark fishermen...although these are not 'by-catches'...these are targeted, but most likely will include some other species, too. This photo is from northside San Marcos Island about 10 years ago. Not long after this photo, an incident happened where a fisherman was hanging over the side of a panga in blood filled water with a cut on his leg...very dangerous thing to do with sharks around, no? The worst happened and a thresher got hold of his leg and severely mauled him. Before his compadres could get him to the Sta. Rosalia hospital he bled to death. Hazards of that undertaking.
