Ice Vizcaino
Hello, does anyone know the name or contact info for the Ice house/plant in Vizcaino BCS. Just north of the first Pemex (south bound) west side of Mex
1 right about where the speed bumps are when approaching town.

Just south of Km. 145 (almost 1 km. north of the Pemex)... No sign, no name, nothing on Google Maps. Images from July 2019.

Thanks David, that's the one. Just trying to figure out if I should ice up in San Felipe or wait till there. Less weight and all but don't want to be
disappointed if they aren't selling any.

Do you live in San Felipe?
I like to pack two ice chest for a long trip, one with block ice and dry ice to replenish the food/ drink ice box which has block and crushed ice.
By all means don't wait to get ice in the middle of the trip... Sometimes all you can find is bag ice (melts fast) or dirty commercial block ice.

most of the little Tiendas in Vizcaino sell ice.
And it is usually colder, crisper (more cold energy) than at that ice producing
place.

I don't know if the one you have in mind sells block ice but there is a place near the vivero that sells block ice. I don't know how potable it is
though.

I never trust Mexican block ice to be potable.
Bagged ice cubes, probably, if they're produced by the same folks that sell purified water. |
Disappointed that the ice vendor south of Mulegé was gone (many years ago on a trip into Sur), we went to the ice house west of Mulegé (Ice House
Road, they call the concrete street at Km. 136).
We got some small blocks off of the larger piece that was made. It was not only dirty ice, milky water melted from it.
The first place that sold bag ice, we dumped the dirty stuff. Obviously this ice is made for things like commercial cooling, fish preservation, but
not in a food or drink ice box. Bag cube ice just melts so fast... Hard to camp for 3 days if that's all they sell.
In my next life, I will get a 110v & 12v fridge-freeze that also runs on propane and/ or solar batteries!

The block ice from nonpotable water is fine for me. Melt water is only used for washing. I dont drink melt water. Food is sealed, so contam risk is
nil.

The ice is produced on site and is sheet ice that is broken up and shoveled into your coolers.
The roads are in REALLY great shape. Mex 5 to Mex 1 route.
