How do you get to the old Cocos Corner from Mex 5 from the north?

The last time I passed the area the old road was blocked. There must be a bypass to get there. I had a favorite camp spot in the area that I gave up on when 5 got more and more popular but no one probably goes in that area now so I thought I would revisit it. Thanks!

It is at the NEW Coco's Corner and will be the Baja 1000 course on the 18th. Pre-running now.
The fork off the highway is by Km. 179. The new Coco's Corner is by Km. 179.5 (site of Las Arrastras).


The race course is in La Turquesa Canyon, meets Hwy. 5 at Km. 176, leaves the Hwy. at Km. 179 onto the old road and returns to the highway by Km. 190 to the Chapala Valley and leaves the highway before reaching Mex. 1.

That would be one of the arrastras at Las Arrastras de Arriola. Gold ore is placed in it, a heavy, flat-faced stone is placed on the ore and smashes it to small particles by turning the stone by hand or by burro.
The particles are then panned using the water from the well there. The location was likely developed by Mama Espinoza's brother, Arturo and another of her brothers. Arturo owned Rancho Laguna Chapala, just over the ridge.
