My husband will start getting SS the first of next year - we will be living in San Felipe by then - do the checks have to be mailed to a US address ?
how are taxes handled ?

Most of us have automatic deposit of the SS money to our bank in the old country (US). Then use ATM's to access it or internet to pay bills with it.

If you don't have direct deposit for your checks you should do this immediately.
You cannot belive how much theft of mail occurs.
You can do taxes "EFILE" and pay ALL bills on the internet through your bank. Susan doesn't mail one bill.
Learn the "NEW" system and you can live and work anywhere.

If you open an account at California Commercial Bank in Chula vista you can automatically have all or part of your direct deposit transfered to your
Banamx account any where in Mexico at no cost. this is the only Bank with this service that I know of.

This is hearsay but I have always heard not to give SS a Mexican address for mailing of checks, so I assume you would likewise not want a direct
deposit into a Mex bank.
Would love to know if this is true?

A few years ago, using the old BITAL bank I deposited pesos to be credited to my dollar account (serviced by BITAL), no problem. I typically withdraw
from a stateside dollar account pesos via ATM card. Now I wish I had as much money as I have options.

SS Checks
Legally, you can receive your Social Security no matter where you live in the world. I had one old friend that moved to Europe and received his
checks there. That was before the days of direct deposit, But SS has an info line you can call that will give you the
exact information.
The advisability of trusting the Mexican Post Office or Banking system is another matter entirely.

This is interesting. Can we still do this? Could this be used for FM2-3 deposits? Maybe I'm just confused!
Now if my SS check is deposited in BITAL it can remain as US dollars? Is there someting like BITAL now?

Larry and Al, Bital is now a part of HSBC a global bank headquartered in London. Check their website, maybe you can bank in different currencies in
different countries.

Banamex handles both peso and dollar accounts. Fee is thirty peso a month for peso account and sixty pesos a month for dollar account.
Both are checking/ATM accounts.
Inside every older person there is a younger person wondering what happened.
