SENTRI or Global Entry wait time? Follow up..?

Any recent experience on the wait time for getting your initial SENTRI or GE? Which seems to be quicker?

I have to assume there is plenty of time for a trip early next year, or is there?

Edited to add - Confirm that an interview is also needed for G.E., and it is also vehicle specific?

I've recently read several posts on a baja expat facebook group that GE is the way to go, much quicker, but I don't have personal experience.

My friend just got GE in under 30 days start to finish. Not sure all are so fast…

Never assume. Submit application as early as possible.

I waited 11 months for my sentri interview. completed it in
9/21 after a 600 mile drive

my wife rec'd her's during that time in5 days. no kidding

I don't know of reason why not to go for GE over Sentri

either way life is lovely in those short lines!

You can shorten the wait time for the interview greatly by repeatedly checking for open spots. There have been several threads discussing this. Like go from 9 months to 2 months, even shorter if you are willing to drive to places at the border.

Not GE/Sentri related, but here is another timeline for government stuff.

Bought a new boat in January and we are in the process of getting it Documented with the Coast Guard instead of getting a CA state registration. Makes it easier to take it down to MX, etc.

Using a service to handle the documentation who has the ability to contact the government agency that processes this.

Jan 27th - Application submitted for Vessel Documentation to the Coast Guard

April 21st - Deficiencies in the application reported back to my agent (notary stamp on the transfer of title wasn't legible enough)

April 28th - Updated documents provided to the CG

July 1st - I asked my agent for an update and she reported back that the CG told her they would review the updated docs in ~2.5 weeks

In 2002 this process took 3 or 4 weeks.

Good example of why we don't want to see the Federal government expanded. Can anyone say with a straight face that the Fed Gov is capable of tackling complex issues like Climate Change?

Why did you use a 3rd party agent? Maybe that is part of your problem. Sounds like you screwed up your application by starting out with an illegible notarization,…. Blame yourself, not the govt. you should have caught error at time of notarization. Never accept or pay for illegible notarization. Shorty, your experience with the coast guard has taught you a life lesson about notaries. Remember your lessons! Don’t repeat YOUR mistakes!

Using your example to slam all of govt is silly. Govt does many things well. Your little CG example has no bearing on govt capability to handle environmental problems.

Looking back on environmental history since 1970s, it appears that govt has done fine job of regulating the environment. I see no reason why govt can’t regulate issues like greenhouse gasses and climate change.

https://ttp.dhs.gov/

" Trusted Traveler Programs are experiencing application processing delays, as well as limited interview availability. While many applications are quickly reviewed, the process can take 6-12 months in some cases. Moreover, interview availability in various regions is limited. We encourage applicants to check interview appointment availability at your preferred Enrollment Center before applying. Find an Enrollment Center : Global Entry, SENTRI, NEXUS

Global Entry applicants may also participate in our Enrollment on Arrival (EoA) program. No appointment is needed and this option may offer the fastest path to membership approval "

Get global entry cheaper and more options for interview locations

You will need an interview

You can register one vehicle

I know someone who just interviewed when returning from international airline travel. 2 hours wait no appointment required
