Does anyone know what type of fish this is? It was caught in shallow water near BOLA last fall. Thanks in advance!

Seeing that the fish in question has a dark body with white spots (the opposite of a spotted cabrilla pictured above)... how about this:
Pacific Mutton Hamlet, Alphestes immaculatus.

Looks like some type of grouper/sea bass
Sometimes hard to tell them apart.
