I drove right by the turn off to that site last year. I had no idea it was there, but now I have a new destination to check out, thanks for the link!

Nice, David! I hope we can get in there to visit again someday. I visited in 2005.
Here is a comparison between Howard Gulick's 1963 photo, and my 2005 photo of the same spot. Note the piece of rock that has fallen away.

Looks like a flake-off of the granite. I do not see any pictograph on it that may have been a reason for it to be intentionally removed.
If I came across my prints of the Jan. 2002 visit, I will see if there is any that show the location.
On my next visit, Spring Break of that year, the missing piece is easily spotted, high above my daughter's left shoulder >>>

The rancher and his wife (daughter of San Borja 's José), both have Facebook pages. In addition, Paulina (on my Facebook post) named other ways of
seeing the cliff, such as at Camp Daggett's.
