Baja dog friendly hotels
I just had a very unfortunate travel issue with finding a hotel with my dog.
So did a search for dog in the title to see if it could have been avoided. Did not find a general thread so starting one now. I arrived there
just at dusk as I always do to the same hotel I have been stopping at for some 10 years now. They told me no dogs allowed anywhere in town by the
declaration of the health department. They would not even allow me to get a room and have the dog sleep in the car.
So this thread is an attempt to let people know which hotels in baja are pet friendly and or issues like an entire town being shut down. I was
not to happy about driving to GN at night.
So Vizcaino as of a week ago would not allow dogs due to ticks.
GN the second I think it is now that has been there on the right for 20-plus years was. About 800 pesos and 100 for the dog.
Close to Cd constitution, after the second large tope on the left was, entering from the north. about 800 pesos no additional dog charges. It was
funny I put my dog on the counter and their small cat jumped up on the other end of the counter in protest. Kinda hissing mildly. Very adorable
cat.

Someone is rattling your cage. Doubt health dept. makes that kind of declaration. I would laugh at that statement if I heard it.
I've had a dog for 20 years and never had a problem. I assume every hotel is dog friendly. I don't say I have a dog unless asked. I pay 100
pesos up front. Not interested in a dog room.
Negotiate. This is not a big deal. Geeze.

People like you give dog owners a bad name. Obnoxious sense of entitlement. I can just imagine the amount of dog hair those mutts of yours leave
behind.
Double cleaning time for the overworked and underpaid cleaners. Not to mention the smell of dog and allergens left that the next hotel guests, who
booked a no-pets hotel room have to suffer. And who may demand a full refund from the hotel.
But then, we all know that you have no concern for anyone but yourself.

We always tip cleaning ppl $20 minimum.
Our dogs have double coats and aren't big shredders. Bet they smell better than you, more friendly too.

Avoid the Mission Inn in Catavina!! they now charge 800 pesos for a pet!!
Mexico!! Where two can live as cheaply as one.....but it costs twice as much.....

Alfonsinas is worse, they charge 1,000 pesos. We wanted to stay for 1 night with out 5kg dog, and they wouldn't budge. After having to pay for the
meal plan (not optional), it was going to be 5000 pesos, almost $300. For 1 night, and you don't even get wifi or an outlet to charge your phone.
Ridiculous. We booked a place nearby with a kitchen and wifi for $130.

good points,
well I did stop at 3 other motels in town and they all said the same thing. My friend with me she is a Mexican national so there was no language
barrier. I did not go into the offices.

Ya stayed there in May, at least they allowed me to leave dog in car overnight.
At that one I had my two unofficially adopted kids with me as we were doing a baja vacation, and as we all know Cativina is the best place to take
kids. It was their favorite place in bajas. climbing bolders so much fun.. They are 15 and 17. Kids have been living with me for 10 or so
years, because I am an engineer I had them doing an hour of math extra a day since they began living with me. Both placed top 10 in math
competition of baja sur.

They are not just rattling the cage, there has been a breakout of tick-borne disease in Baja that has killed quite a few people, including children.

I saw another article that said that in the past dogs were not known to carry the pathogen but now they have seen deaths associated with kids getting
bit by tics from strays in a small ejido village on the coastline in Northern Baja. Maybe someone can track down that article.
Given this new disease outbreak it is reasonable for motels to not allow dogs.

It seems to me that usa drug consumption causes the cartel problems in mexico, and usa taxes should be reallocated to mexico to address problems in

Off topic, but I would agree about Alfonsinas crazy prices. People must be paying it. It's an amazing location that I will stop at and have a beer
now, but not stay. They used to be our go to back in the day.

Adding facts to this post: We just drove down and stayed in San Felipe at the San Felipe Marina Resort (which should be in quotes) and they charged us
$400 Pesos for the dog. Same with La Mision in Loreto.

That's not all that outrageous an amount- it's on par with what a lot of short term rentals, like Airbnb, charge for a pet fee.
When a hotel or homeowner has had guests stay with dogs, a dog left in the room, scratching the door, chewing things up, urinating or defecating on
the carpets, incessantly whining or barking, shedding all over everything and leaving the smell of dog behind is going to make them either disallow
pets in the future, or charge to cover damages and extra cleaning time.
Just because your dog or mine don't cause those kinds of problems doesn't mean no one's do. And everyone claims their dog is well-behaved, even when
it isn't. As with most things, the bad dog owners ruin it for the rest.
