highway 5 between San Felipe and Chapala

Does anyone have any recent information on the condition of highway 5 between San Felipe and Chapala? And also whether there is a Marine check point on the way. Some people prefer not to deal with them but I find it a bit comforting to know that drivers in remote areas have to deal with the Law once in a while. Thanks!

The road is fine and the military at Gonzaga is no longer there.
