BajaNomad

HI GUYS... WE'RE BACK and IT WAS GREAT!

David K - 7-26-2009 at 12:07 AM

Hello Nomads and Lurkers... SAT NIGHT 7-25-09:

Baja Angel and I got back tonight from 8 FANTASTIC days in BAJA!

We had the BEST time on our ONE YEAR anniversary vacation... the BEST! Perfect weather, great people, wonderful sites to visit, great food... NO PROBLEMS.

I will do a detailed report over on the Baja Trip Reports Forum... with mileages, times, costs... some GPS... and 455 PHOTOS! (no I can't put them ALL here on Nomad). So check that forum in a day or so for the first parts of the 8 day trip report to get posted.

Here is a preview of what/ where/ when/ who... (just a sampling):

El Rosario' Turista Motel was Night 1, and Ignacio Springs (Yurts) in San Ignacio was Night 2.

Baja Nomads 'Bob & Susan' were super hosts and we had a great time at their PLAYA FRAMBES LIGHTHOUSE RESORT... Night's 3 & 4.

'Phil C' showed us a great time in Loreto... we stayed at the Coco Cabana for Night 5... Quinta San Francisco was closed.

New highway to San Javier is a beautiful drive and about 50% paved from Loreto.

We met Olivia and Mark 'Oliguacamole' of the Playa Buenaventura Restaurant... We camped on Bahia Concepcion for Night 6.

We visited many mission sites including the Magdalena desert site west of Punta Chivato. We discovered the ramains of one mission site that was reported destroyed by road construction (not)! GREAT!
We visited with Jose and family at Mision San Borja, too.

Today we had a private visit with Mama Espinoza (101) WOW, after a great breakfast at the remodeled Espinoza's restaurant and a FANTASTIC stay at BAJA CACTUS for Night 7.

Chef Johnny cooked us a great dinner at the Half Way House tonight on our way home... Okay, I'm exhausted... Good Night Amigos!:D;D

David I'm happy to hear you had a great La Baja trip and even had a private meeting with Mama. I can't wait to go see her in October when she turns 102.

Now

Of course only when you have time...

Nice trip, David!
How about posting all your fotos on one of the photo-hosting websites so us Nomads can see them all! (I'm sure you already thought os that, though)

Oggie - 7-26-2009 at 10:06 AM

Great trip!

Waiting for the pictures.

David K - 7-26-2009 at 10:41 AM

Thanks amigos!

Photos are coming... and the trip report details, too!

Zac, no doubt, as we left El Rosario (Baja's Best for breakfast) at 10:23 am Sunday... southbound. You would have seen the two big Hella lights on the front to ID my Tacoma from all the others in Baja.

We passed a red truck/ red shell/ Score sticker, towing a panga that looked like Paulina's truck, but there were no Vagabundos magnetic signs on the doors (?) she always has on. After passing it, the passenger waved out the window in big arches... Paulina, was that you...? or another Nomad?

Udo... maybe I will link the photos when they are all on photobucket... but I do like to have captions so you know what it is... and there may be a few photos of Baja Angel and I kissing, that may not be that interesting to others! LOL

Debra - 7-26-2009 at 10:46 AM

Not Paulina, she's in Bahia.........saw her Monday.

Yep, it was the two of you...I saw the lights and said to Tracy, "I think that was David K"...too bad we didn't see you in town.

bajachris - 7-26-2009 at 11:19 AM

Dave,

How hot was it in Bahia Concepcion? We are heading that way tomorrow and would love to spend the night at Requeson. Was it comfortable enough to sleep at night?

Cypress - 7-26-2009 at 11:23 AM

David K., Can't wait to see the pictures and hear the details.

fdt - 7-26-2009 at 11:33 AM

Same here, can't wait for pictures. This was a long trip.

Turista hotel in ER

BajaVida - 7-26-2009 at 01:13 PM

what did you think of it?
we stayed there this spring because Baja Cactus was closed
it was a pleasant surprise--very clean and quiet

bajachris - 7-26-2009 at 01:22 PM

I think the Cactus is a beautiful hotel, but a little noisy with the air brakes from the trucks going down the hill. It was sold out on our way down Friday night. You can call or email to make reservations. I recommend that!

David K - 7-26-2009 at 05:07 PM

Okay, I will post Day One of the trip and photos after typing this...

Debra: It was Sunday, July 19 when we passed the red truck towing a panga with a waving passenger heading south from El Rosario.

bajachris: It was pretty darn warm and humid all night as the breeze died when it got dark. If you have a battery powered fan for your tent or camper, I would suggest it. We camped at La Perla to the right of Requeson as it was empty and Requeson was full. The only issue there was a 6 am car arriving fisherman with his umpah-norteņo music blaring for the next hour that woke us up just as it cooled enough in the tent to get some deep sleep!

BajaVida, Turista is a great motel with excellent beds and an 'almost free' price! The showers are excellent, too...

Okay, look to the Trip Reports Forum for the details and photos... Baja 709.

Debra, I just read this from Paulina in the Baja Construction thread, posted on July 10... we passed them on July 19 south of El Rosario:

>>>

Thank you for the report. We will be towing our panga through there next weekend.

<<<

Wish we knew it was them, but without the Vags signs on the doors I didn't think it was!

Zac and David,

We saw both of you on the road that day. It's a small baja at times. On edit: David, I used to have those vag magnets, but no longer.

P<*)))>{ still in Bahia till around Aug. 10th.

Hi Paulina... We would have pulled over if I had a clue you were heading down that day... I saw you waving after we passed, but I didn't know you had a panga or no longer had the Vags signs! Sorry!
