I wasn't sure until tonight, but as it is really 'off road' and for off road racing TV host Cameron Steele's tour group: I am being flown down to meet
up with them somewhere south of Colonet and visit the missions at Santo Domingo, El Rosario and San Fernando. I will try and take lots of photos and
share here after we get back Thursday PM. I presume the helicopter is for TV footage, such as seen on Cameron's Rip to Cabo annual event.
I have never been in a copter before, so this should be fun!
Stay tuned for a trip report in 3-4 days!

Cameron's groups often come right through our "front yard"...the lagoon of San Antonio del Mar (immediately west of Colonet). Our house is the only
red roof in the area. There is a cluster of four casitas about 1/2 mile back from the beach, north side of lagoon If you can, please take a pic, as
we have been there over 20 years and have never seen it from the air.
I envy you...have a blast!David K - 6-24-2014 at 08:19 AM
I sure will... the old Johnson Ranch, correct?
Leaving about 1pm. Have my passport. I think we clear into Mexico at Ensenada airport?
Hope the June Gloom burns away.TMW - 6-24-2014 at 08:29 AM
Sounds like a lot of fun.baja43 - 6-24-2014 at 08:50 AM
Yep, we are about a mile due west of Johnson ranch.
Don't know about clearing thru Ensenada...I tried to arrange a light plane trip awhile back and it was going to require a TJ clearance and way more
money than I could afford.
You lucky dogBajaBlanca - 6-24-2014 at 09:35 AM
maybe take some pills for air sickness beforehand?
I bet it will be a trip of a lifetime. cant wait to see pics.durrelllrobert - 6-24-2014 at 09:43 AM

Take a large zip lock bag with you... Seriously. Flying in a helicopter is WAY different than a fixed wing. If you don't need it, the person beside
you might!! lizard lips - 6-24-2014 at 10:25 AM

^^^^^^ SEVERAL bagsDavid K - 6-24-2014 at 10:43 AM
Stop it you guys!
Anyway, it is just the pilot and I flying down. He will know what airport he needs to clear through.
Cameron left San Clemente at 5 am and is leading about a dozen trucks south past Laguna Hanson and out to the coast near San Vicente then south to
Mission Santo Domingo. I think we will land somewhere near there and I will transfer into one of the trucks? One night at San Quintin and one at
Solosports at Punta San Carlos... off roading to Mission San Fernando and El Rosario's mission on one of the legs to San Carlos.
I need to get going, so thanks for the advice and cheers... As always, I will be sharing my trip with you all! Hasta Pronto Amigos!Ateo - 6-24-2014 at 11:01 AM

Nice DK! Have a great trip and take a ton of photos!LancairDriver - 6-24-2014 at 12:12 PM
Enjoy the ride DK. Four wheeling is fun, but flying over it all is had to beat, especially with a helicopter where you can land almost anywhere and
explore terrain you could never access any other way.DocRey - 6-24-2014 at 01:47 PM

Helicopter flying is counter-intuitive in that it is incredibly quiet on board and very stable. Far less chance of getting sick that on a small plane.BAJACAT - 6-24-2014 at 05:01 PM
CAN I BE DAVID KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK, PLEASE PLEASEDavid K - 6-24-2014 at 08:15 PM
Hello Amigos. We are at the Mision Santa Maria hotel by Cielito Lindo in San Quintin. Cameron's tour group has 15 trucks, mostly Raptors. Lunch at the
Santa Marta orphanage in San Vicente. There I moved from the copter to Camerons Raptor. Fun group. It will be on CBS Sports he says. I lectured at
Mission Santo Domingo to the group. Dinner now. Bye!Ken Cooke - 6-24-2014 at 09:54 PM

A bell Jet Range 5 is noisey. Have flown many times in the on we had at the TV station. Maybe a piston helicopter is quiet.Eli - 6-25-2014 at 12:37 PM

Thanks Sara...
Hey everyone, I made it back!
I can say that these were the nicest people and it was just wonderful being with them the past two days! Cameron and Heidi (and the rest were totally
amazing/ friendly/ nice/ fun/ etc. to be with!
This is a week long trip and some had to return today as the copter and I did. Casey in the Jeep cut his finger real bad surfing at Punta San Carlos
so he flew back with us in the copter today.
I got out of the copter at Santa Marta Orphanage near San Vicente and rode with Cameron and Heidi to San Quintin. The next day and today I rode Ron
Stobaugh, then transferred to Casey's Jeep JK to a spot south of Mission San Fernando... and then back to USA from there... just over 100 mph makes
Baja trips fast!
I took 682 photos... It will be most difficult to not share them all! I will write a trip report when I can... Here are a few photos:
Toll Hwy. Repair
Nearing Ensenada airport
Near Cuatro Casas (Camalu)
South of San Quintin
Near La Lobera
Cameron and Antonio (Baja Cactus)
Lunch at Punta Baja
Cameron with his little girl and I.
Ooops!
Beautiful! (near Punta San Antonio)
Mucho mas in the trip report!!!Ateo - 6-26-2014 at 09:44 PM

what a fantastic trip...lucky you David....pays to be an expert right?David K - 6-27-2014 at 08:12 AM
LOL... I only got to do a little talk at Santo Domingo and El Rosario's second site... They are trying to get in so many places for camera
opportunities we ran short on time and didn't get to do a planned third talk at San Fernando...
The Raptor I was in got a sidewall gash (BFG All Terrain TA) so they transferred me to Casey's Jeep so I could get to San Fernando in time for the
group... but the road from Punta San Carlos to San Fernando was slow and no time available... Cameron's food crew was set up at Santa Ynez, I think,
then they were going to L.A. Bay for the night... and the planned run to Coco's Corner and down Calamajué Canyon got scrubbed... It is just too much
time when there are 15 trucks or more in a tour run to take in so many stops. They are going all the way to Cabo... in 6 days... to see more missions,
not sure how!?StuckSucks - 6-27-2014 at 08:21 AM
Once in a lifetime trip - thanks for sharing!David K - 6-27-2014 at 08:26 AM
The pilot (Jim McCoy) also is the helicopter for some race teams and SCORE video. Was really something... Much more in the trip report... gotta go
work now!BajaGeoff - 6-27-2014 at 10:06 AM
Great stuff DK! Traveling in Baja with Cameron is always a great time. He really loves to share his knowledge of Baja with others the same way that
you do. That helicopter trip looked amazing. Jim is a great pilot and real nice guy as well!TMW - 6-27-2014 at 10:08 AM
Excellent stuff, thanks. So from the picture I would guess the toll road won't be ready in September.BajaGeoff - 6-27-2014 at 10:53 AM

That dirt section shown heading inland and connecting to the toll road at both ends of the collapse, at the top of photo, is SUPPOSED to become one
paved lane north and 1 paved lane south by Sept. 15th 2014.
