I am a newbie surfer. Usually surf Doheny and San Onofre. Is Punta Cabras a good place for a novice. I want to camp and surf. From what I hear this
seems to be the place for me. Any input would be greatAteo - 8-1-2014 at 08:15 AM
Yeah, Punta Cabras would be perfect. Go for it and report back.surfcity33 - 8-1-2014 at 08:36 AM
I haven't really got that place good in a while, but it does get good. Its kind of a heavy beach break when there is swell. Bring your 4/3 and booties
even in the summertime. And yes, its safe, as you would get in Baja. Even though there was a murder of a land owner to the north ~25 miles at Punta

Crappy surf there, go to Ventura and surf mondos, or in SD, PBStuckSucks - 8-2-2014 at 09:04 AM
What about Long Beach (I think that's what it's called), just north of Cabras - we've seen lots of surfers in that bay. Not a point break of course.Ateo - 8-2-2014 at 09:21 AM

Yep. That's what many refer to as Punta Cabras, even though it's north of the true Cabras. Technically I think it's called Bahia Almejas.El Jefe - 8-2-2014 at 10:52 AM
Maybe try the shipwreck point at Punta San Jacinto just north of Camalu. Nice point waves for beginner. I cannot attest for recent conditions as it
has been several years since I camped there. But we always had fun.
