Newbie Surfer

I am a newbie surfer. Usually surf Doheny and San Onofre. Is Punta Cabras a good place for a novice. I want to camp and surf. From what I hear this seems to be the place for me. Any input would be great

Yeah, Punta Cabras would be perfect. Go for it and report back.

Hey surfcity33, here's your first thread:
http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=74699

I haven't really got that place good in a while, but it does get good. Its kind of a heavy beach break when there is swell. Bring your 4/3 and booties even in the summertime. And yes, its safe, as you would get in Baja. Even though there was a murder of a land owner to the north ~25 miles at Punta San Jose.

Crappy surf there, go to Ventura and surf mondos, or in SD, PB

What about Long Beach (I think that's what it's called), just north of Cabras - we've seen lots of surfers in that bay. Not a point break of course.

Yep. That's what many refer to as Punta Cabras, even though it's north of the true Cabras. Technically I think it's called Bahia Almejas.

Maybe try the shipwreck point at Punta San Jacinto just north of Camalu. Nice point waves for beginner. I cannot attest for recent conditions as it has been several years since I camped there. But we always had fun.

No b-tchin\' in the Baja.
