tyguypb - 10-12-2014 at 07:24 PM

has anyone ever been down to Campo Renee or has anyone ever fished that estero coyote? i am thinking about doing a little exploring down in that neck of the peninsula. what are the roads like to that region? will i need serious off-road capabilities or will i be alright in a Subaru Outback? Thanks for any and all helpful info. Cheers!

Oh, I have lots of photos from Campo Rene--- all on the other computer. :-) But I also think at times it is best for someone to "discover" something without all the minute information and photos.

Subaru Outback will do just fine! It is such a beautiful place! Go and have FUN

you could always post someone elses pictures:lol:

MMc - 10-12-2014 at 08:17 PM

Some of us like to discover places with out the maps and photo's, so we don't post them.

GO!!! You will have a great time that area is car friendly and the fishing is good to great. If you have a kayak or such take it, a float tube would be fun too. The shore fishing between Rene and town is good at times. Go Explore.

I'm sure the map guy will be along shortly.

If you would like more info u2u me, I love that area.

Meany - 10-13-2014 at 04:47 AM

It's a GREAT Place. Go and have fun and if you fly fish it's fun there as well. One of my favoret places.:bounce: Welcome to the Baja Board....:O

Ribbonslinger - 10-13-2014 at 05:47 AM

We went there last year. Kayaks are a must and the fishing was great. Go into the lagoon at low tide and try fishing the large tidal pools. You will be shocked how many and how big the fish are in there. Water was murky so I was using a crocodile spoon on light tackle. It was a blast! Watch out for the pelicans taking your fish from right behind you. If you have some $20 used bikes, bring them. Beach biking there is great. When I go there next year I will probably stay on the beach near the lagoon inlet. I like things a little more private. The family that runs the restraint there are very good people. You can sit on the deck and knock back tecate watching the sunset. Sunday is Mexican family day, so don,t freak out when they show up with loud mariachi music and tons of beer. Best to join in. People seem to whine about the bugs there but I am from Canada so they were pretty tame compared to what we call bugs.

You will love that place.

what MMc said, Ribbonslinger too!

David K - 10-13-2014 at 04:02 PM

So, the two of you speak for everyone? People actually come to Baja Nomad to not see Baja places, really? LOL

If anybody would like to see photos of the place, there are plenty already posted on Nomad. I have a few showing the set up and beautiful Estero El Coyote there from 2007. Just let me know if you want to see those or if you need help finding other photos of Campo Rene.

I can tell you one thing for sure, no matter how many photos I see of a place, it NEVER replaces or takes away from going there in person. There are also many people who will no go there for whatever reason, but they still come here to have a visual taste of what is in Baja. That often inspires people to take the plunge and come on down. That HELPS the people of Baja. Keeping places secret or unseen only serves the individual.

rts551 - 10-13-2014 at 04:07 PM

If you want to see pictures, pls rely on something more recent than 2007. Don't know what DK is talking about since you can get a taste of the place from its web site.

BajaBlanca - 10-13-2014 at 04:18 PM

Here is a pic of Campo Rene - it is even more gorgeous than this wonderful photo shows!

Easy access, sometime quite full during summer when folks who actually live in Baja go there to escape the intense muggy heat of other towns on the Sea of Cortez side.

Have a great trip and stop by LA BOCANA to meet us! I am the local middle school and high school English teacher so ask for BLANCA la maestra and any kid/adult will direct you. We are less than an hour away....to get here you drive onto Punta Abreojos - take a street called MIGUEL DOMINGUEZ all the way across the salt flats/estero to LA BOCANA.

Remember that there have been high tides, so bear right away from the waters of the lagoon (estero).

Welcome to the fun, Tyler! and if you are coming before Oct. 31 Pretty please bring me Halloween candy to distribute and I will happily reimburse.

Of course you would say that... you are also in favor of the' low information voter', I imagine?

wtf does one have to do with the other?

p.s. I am in favor of anyone that votes the opposite of you!

Hey what happened to Davids posts. Glad you have learned to quote him .

David K - 10-14-2014 at 08:36 PM

When quoted, there is no reason for my replies to be here twice. I simply deleted them since the goat preserved them in his. I don't need to add to my post count, after all!

So is Campo Rene a secret that must be kept from anyone new... or are you bullies on the playground willing to let new kids come and play??

What a jerk...weren't the web sites enough? certainly not a secret. why is any pne a bully? geeze.. are you feeling picked on or just low?

David K - 10-14-2014 at 10:06 PM

You like being the bully, don't you Ralph? Name calling again... "jerk" huh?

bajaspuds - 10-15-2014 at 02:22 AM

Campo Rene is no secret: great fishing, cabins, RV hookups, restaurant, paved highway, airstrip -- an all-around beautiful place. Why all the drama about photos, veteran nomads?

Some of us think that people going to Baja should do their own planing. They can read reports look at the maps and then, GO! We sometimes will give clues as to where to look or places for more info. Like the places website or a trip report.

Some of us have been blown away by seeing a place for the first time. Something we didn't expect or it is greater then our expectation. We hope that other also experience the same, so getting the turn by turn with photos cheapen the experience. IMHO.

There others here disagree and give great detail(spew). We get into p!$$ing contest like this one.

"bully?"
so,... your response to being called a name is to do name calling yourself?
:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

getting back on topic,... campo rene and the lagoon are pretty cool place.
if you like that lagoon, you should go check out san ignacio lagoon too,...
all of the lagoons are great for kayaks... the best kayaking in baja, great beaches, mangroves and fishing, incredibly abundant and varied bird populations (go in the cool season, avoid the hot season).

less name calling, more kayaking!

peace out!

yes we can!

BajaDanD - 10-15-2014 at 05:22 PM

I know where the fish are "Straight off shore, Straight over the bottom" That's where they always are.

ok, so i must clarify the purpose of this post so as to alleviate any ire drawn my way for what i presumed was nothing more than an innocent query.

essentially all i really wanted to know were three things:
1. can i make it there with my vehicle?
2. Has anyone been there before who can vouch for this place?
3. an enhancement to #2, is it safe? is the place maintained? etc.

I don't want to be the guying asking others to plan my trip, hold my hand, baby me etc. all i want is a little info from people, like yourselves, who really know the area. i just wanna be safe and have fun :(

Thanks to everyone for all the information! you guys rock!

MMc - 10-15-2014 at 08:23 PM

1. yes

2. yes...I live 11 miles away

3. owned and operated by the Abreojos Coop.

sorry the post took a right turn and stepped on your toes.

BajaDanD - 10-15-2014 at 09:15 PM

there are so many people on Nomads that have been there. I have been there too and will be there in 2 weeks Ive driven a Toyota Echo there before its not in the middle of nowhere. just about any running car can get there. Is it safe compared top what. I think its safe Ive never had any problems there. Its a nice place. Go have fun.

coolhand - 10-16-2014 at 08:11 PM

Amazing fishing in the lagoon. Covina are crazy at high tide. At low tide the grouper are crazy. At low tide, wade or swim across lagoon to the sand bars. There are grouper galore. Gotta wade/swim but if you like grouper.... And the c-ckles in between the sand/cobble stones are to die for. We even used old wetsuit cuttings and caught everything mentioned above plus halibut.

coolhand - 10-16-2014 at 08:18 PM

It is the northernmost full mangrove forest. That's where the groupers live.. And it's Covina central as well. Throw in some good size halibut at the channel.

I think you mean corvina...

David K - 10-17-2014 at 09:30 AM

Sometimes they mean Corbina... where the mouth is tells all... mouth on bottom, with a barb: Corbina

It's even tougher in Mexico because the Spanish V and B or so similar!

BajaBlanca - 10-17-2014 at 07:43 PM

just drove the road from highway 1 to punta abreojos and that stretch to campo rene is perfect

there are 2 areas that have SAND all over the road where it was washed out- very well marked with orange posts and easy to maneuver.

After you are on the road for quite a while, you will see a big tower ( microwave is what it says) on your right. Know that you are approaching campo rene then.

Hubby Les says wait for the second sign and then follow the road on the left. Some areas are a little steep but once off the road all is good. One of our guests was there fly fishing yesterday and says the road is perfect. Restaurant open and accessible.

Have fun!
