Sewage in Estero Bay, Ensenada BCN

It seems there's been a long running sewage problem where the raw stuff is flowing into Estero Bay, just south of Ensenada. I've personally seen it flowing a few times, and at various tidal / wind combinations, the bay stinks of sewage, and the smell can be detected even out in the ocean just in front of the mouth of the estuary, at Mona Lisa / El Faro beaches.

Here's the location where the yuck enters the bay - just a bit southeast of Tony's Camp: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Ux8wGwK4yjXt99Bt7 In a boat, I've followed the putrid yellow flow of yuck (smells of poop and sometimes laundry detergent) from the bay itself right to this estuary channel. As I look at Google Earth, this channel traces back under Highway 1, and back to Baja Country Club and up to the hills and the hot springs.

Apparently this stems from a broken sewage system / pipe / something in the Maneadero area, at least that's what the rumor mill is saying. For sure something dramatic has happened, as in previous years, there was not a big flow like there is nowadays. I am not finding any information online (and my Spanish isn't great, so that's making it tougher to find info online).

Does anybody have a source of news or information on this situation? The bay, channel, and even the ocean out front is disgusting on an outgoing tide...

To the last of my knowledge, there is a sewage plant about 4 km north of Estero beach. If you head West from the North corner of the military base, you will see the sewage plant on your right. They generally have trucks dumping sewage into the collection vats.

TJ Sloughs still a problem with no solution in sight. Bacteria is airborne -- don't have to go in the water to get sick.

Must have built up immunity surfing it in the 60s. Wonder how long it takes the stuff to reach Ensenada?

Well sure, they are dumping millions of gallons of raw sewage in the ocean, but I hear that their "carbon footprint" is low. Isn't that what matters in these days of climate concern?

The TJ sewage treatment plant on the US side of the border in the TJ River valley is being rebuilt now.

The TJ sewage treatment plant 6 miles south of the border is also being rebuilt now. The Mexican equivalent of the Army Corp of Engineers is doing this job.

There are many smaller projects on both sides of the border addressing the sewage problem.

TJ sewage generally flows north polluting Playas de Tijuana, and Imperial Beach and Coronado Beach in the US. Imperial Beach has been closed to swimming for over two years.
