New Inreach plans

Evaluating the new InReach enable plan to see if lower cost is worthwhile
I have the recreation freedom recreation plan for 24.99/m which include 40 free messages.
That plan cost is now 29.99/m
The new “enable plan” costs 14.99/m and has a charge for all messages @ 0.50 each and each point sent is 0.10.
Use this link for an explanation
https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=nVmBNWZg1v3zNcPXlBnlI8
I had some questions and here is the response from Garmin support:
Inreach new plans
Price went up from 24.95 to 29.99/month for the basic plan most of us use “Freedom Recreation”
New low-cost plan
They have a new plan called “Inreach Enabled” 9.99/m now 14.99/m
A plan for seldom need for text/email message, but still have tracking and …
Messages $0.10 each
Unlimited SOS included
Send track points $0.10 each
Track intervals 10+ min
Weather $1.00 each
Text $0.50 each
Photos or voice messages $1.0 each
Some users may benefit from cancelling their service during the off season. For example, if you only need inReach satellite communication features for one or two months out of the year, it will be more cost effective to cancel your service and then reactivate it again the following year. $39.99 USD for new activation.
The updated tracking points will charge you 10 cents per tracking point on the essential or enabled plan
There is no charge to view the mapshare page.

I forgot to mention text message using your iphone stays the same. This allows creating the message on the phone and sending it via inreach satellite

Thank you for checking into this for the inReach users here!

I had the use of an inReach Explorer model, during my years researching for Baja Bound making their interactive map... with the benefit of communicating with my wife ('Baja Angel'), Geoff at Baja Bound, as well as several Nomads, who followed my travels on their screens and advised me as I traveled all over the peninsula (Dec 2016-May 2019).

Yes, the big change here is that they have done away with annual fees, and now have Activation costs.

Where I used to be able to keep my Inreach "Suspended" (for no cost) most of the time -- except for the month or two here or there when I actually use it, they now don't allow this free suspension anymore. They have switched to two new cost options for times when the Inreach isn't in use:

• Switch the Inreach plan to "Enabled" when it's not in use, at a cost of $8/month.
Deactivate and later re-Activate the Inreach plan for each trip, costing $40 each time.

This website does a good job of breaking down the costs:

I see my post has been removed
not everyone is strong enough to hear how economy works
and I understand politics is a no-no on this esoteric group
