Has anyone else noticed StarLink Service will change the end of February ‘25?

I received an email from StarLink a few days ago stating that my service will be moved to Roam unlimited the 24th of February. ($165 US/M)

After some research I found that the new plan only supports 2 months out of area coverage. My current plan says that as well but StarLink won’t change your location to Mexico and charge you less for service.

Has anyone heard anything about what will happen if you migrate to Roam unlimited from Mexico after the first 2 months?

Since roaming for Mexican registered accounts is only about $85/mo. Starlink might not be inclined to force you to change account location.

TG,

They haven't over the last several years. Probably because of $$$!

The new Roam is more $$$ and has the same 2 month restriction. I think after reading all the weasel words and comments that I will buy a new Mexican System and use Nordvpn with a 3rd party router and a static IP address. That will give me a location in Los Angeles for Apps that care.

I’m using the Nordvpn software now on my Idevices over Starlink and it works fine.

I've decided to buy Starlink next week using a BCS address. I'm hoping that a US bank account is not a problem. I'll be using it for 6 months, Oct through April. I'd prefer a mini because I'm on a minimal solar system while in BCS but mini's aren't available in Mexico (yet). I'll add to the solar system if needed.

Comments?

Has anyone tried their latest Starlink package.
I signed up for the Starlink portable "backpack" setup several months ago A small flat antennae and a large candy bar sized ac plug containing electronics to supply Wi-Fi anywhere. They added $30/mo. to my $120 bill. I have used it on several boon dock RV camping trips and it works just fine.

Starlink is very spendy. Most areas in baja have people running wifi networks that can be joined for lower cost, and a directional antenna.

We used our Canadian Credit card to pay for our Baja based system. I don't see it being a problem. The service was reliable and fast, but we had a home based system, no roaming.

I finally heard back from customer service on how to transfer your Starlink to a new country (Mexico) they said to transfer your system to a new account set up in Mexico! We have an existing Mexican account from having 2 systems so later this month or next month when I buy a VPN router I will try that and report back.

Yes, you can pay a Mexican account with a non-Mexican CC.

Amazon.mx is selling StarLink minis currently.

What's the advantage of a VPN router over just running a VPN directly off your connected devices?

L,

With a VPN router the whole house is in the US. The TV works with US domestic Content and our phones register as being in the US.

Thanks. I can see the advantage on both counts.

Too bad smart TV's don't include VPN capability. Wouldn't cost much to include it.

RFClark: Am I correct in assuming your new Mexico based roaming account will be approximately 1/2 the cost of the present one in the US? Sounds like a no-brainer.
