I was camping at a Las Animas and got to talking to a local that was diving for octopus and he said he would squirt bleach in holes and it would flush
them out.

It is an irritant to the octopus and will drive them out of their den. When I was a kid we would catch octopus at low tide amongst the rocks and eat
them. Turns out they are smarter than dogs so its like eating your dog so I stopped.

The issue apparently is that it kills the reefs and anything else in the area. It is a very common practice with Mexican fishermen.

I don't know anyone who has done that, but I have heard that it happens near Seward and Homer Alaska on low tides. Both the tides, and the octopus
are huge there.

Bleach is used to stun the target fish. Unfortunately the bleach impacts every critter and bio around it.

there's actually a test that will tell if spiny lobster have ever been exposed to bleach, I assume the same for octopus.

Watched a fisherman in a wet suit using bleach along the beach in BoLA once.
