Disaster for a friend in La Paz
Tonight I received an email from 'Alejandra de Baja' (Sally). She has been spending most of the last three years on her floating 'home' in La Paz Bay,
a demasted ferro ketch (cement boat) moored off El Mogote.
Her email showed the sadness and confusion as she told me her home is sunk... and a cement wall fell onto her truck (parked at the Marina La Paz lot,
I believe). She was on another yacht (just rescued) when the docks were being ripped apart and the mast on that yacht snapped.
Sally and her dog Scupper are safe, but she only was able to salvage her marine radio before her boat sunk. The arrival time of the hurricane's eye
saved lives, she reports.
La Paz is a mess, and she is not sure what to do. The yachties do have a close association and help each other.
Alejandra made no requests for assistance. I am just sharing her story because it is important to most of you who have connections in Baja to know,
and some of you have met Alejandra at my Viva Baja 1 & 4 or chatted with her in my (former) 'gobaja' chat room, a couple years ago.
I know how much her floating home in La Paz meant to her and how she loved La Paz and exploring Baja. I feel a very sad state exists for anyone on or
near the water, in Baja. Marty was muy, muy malo!

I wondered about her....for some reason, I thought she was in Oregon (Isn't that where her stateside home is?) I'm sorry I missed her and I'm really
sorry for her plight.

Yes... I thought she was still in Oregon, as well. She usually doesn't return to La Paz until October. The email was a surprise, and given what she
has been through, we are fortunate she was able to send one out. I still have not heard anything new from Tucker. Is Aldo posting anything new?

david i am so sorry to hear about sallys troubles.....i traveled to la paz with her a couple of years ago. i will email her now but if yu hear from
her again please let her know shiloh and blaine are thinking of her and are heartsick about her trouble. thank you.

Received a new email from Alejandra in La Paz... The yachties are all helping each other and she is fine, considering her losses. Jack Swords' La
Paloma was the closest to shore and the other sail boats were leaning againt one another, mast to mast permitting access over each other to shore.
Jack's boat is probably the least damaged. Sally said she obtained an apartment for the time being. She arrived in La Paz 8 days ago, four days before
the hurricane. She appreciates the concern, but says there isn't anything we (in the states) can do.
I take this as a good sign, and wish Sally and the other boat people of Baja a speedy recovery from their losses.

I am getting reports that this storms wind really wreaked havoc. The tip of BCS has sustained a lot of infrastructure damage. thank got there was
also not a lot of rain like juliette.
My heart goes out to all those that lost so much. I will be there in 2 weeks and will report what I see.

Thanks a lot Max, your storm reports make CNN (and Fox News) reporters look like amateurs!
If there was an award for most thoughtful Amigo (or Nomad), I would nominate you!

east cape
we got hit really hard on the east cape, we were in the right front quadrant of storm have heard rumors of sustained winds of 150 miles per hr. lot of
broken windows no water or power but no reports of injuries. went through hurricane kiko in 88 and this one was worse for los barilles, the road to
la paz is passable but you have to access through san bartola arroyo. lucky that the big winds lasted only 1 ro 2 hrs or would have been lots more
damage
