Cell Phone Service ?

As GTE became AT&T wireless and now Cingular , I remained a faithful customer. But since becoming Cingular , they have become inflexible and have adopted the surly customer service attitude of their parent company SBC and I am considering changing over to Verizon or T-Mobile

I've always had adequate coverage in Baja with Cingular but was wondering what those of you who use Verizon or T-Mobile can say about service and cost of using your phones there.

Thanks ,

lero

AT&T (now Cingular) used to offer the North American Plan which I currently have. I can use my phone in Canada, USA & Mexico without any connection charges, roaming charges or per minute fees as long as I do not go over my monthly alotted minutes. I will always be able to have this service as long as I remember to recommit for a new two year contract when it comes due. AT&T offered this plan a while back for people who frequent those countries on business or vacations. The idea was that AT&T would cover the incidental costs such as roaming and cell site relay fees, to allow their customers to use this service now and then in exchange for the two year committment. But what people did was sign up for the NAP and send the actual phone to Mexico and/or Canada for their friends and family to use as the phone's primary location and the occasional incidental costs for AT&T went through the roof. As soon as Cingular took over, they stopped offering that plan and let current North American Plans expire. The Cingular agent at my local store actually told me, "Don't let this plan expire or you will never have these basically free calls!" My Cingular service has actually worked all the way down to Honduras with spillover coverage from all the new cell sites they installed in southern mainland Mexico.

Cingular service works the best, but the North American Plan works even better for 800 minutes @ $69.95/month and NO roaming charges. Love it and would not use anything else other than a sat phone. I would be paying the same $69.95/month even if I never left the USA. But since I own a home in Los Barriles and spend a lot of time there, I am not complaining about my phone service one little bit.

I purchased MovieStar phone in Ensenada and it worked ok on our trip.

I met a couple of people using Skype, a program you download on your puter. I will go this way soon.

It costs four cents to connect and two and a half cents per minute. A real bargain. I will use headphone with mic. All one needs is an internet connection. You can call any phone number including land lines and cell phones.
