Penn reels wanted

Local fisherman in Asuncion (Juan's partner) is looking for a decent Penn reel, a 6.0 or up so they can go to the Bahia Tortugas fishing tournament in May. they are having one day of competition for all the fishing coops in the area and another day of "open to all" derby.

Shari,

Cypress has a good idea. If you check under completed sales on Ebay you will find the average going price, so you'll know what to expect to bid without paying too much in order to win. The average Penn Senator sold for $60.oo.

Should the Ebay option not work for you for some reason, I find it hard to believe that with the size of Asuncion and the number of people related to/and or friends of your local fisherman friend, that there isn't someone with a loaner reel(s).

Good luck!

HA! It's very rare that the local fishermen here have that kind of gear...most just use hand lines...and if by chance someone is so lucky to have that gear they for sure would NEVER loan it to anyone, plus all the fishermen are getting this day off to go to this tournament so anyone who has gear is obviously a fishing nut and will be at the derby...trying to win the big prize.. Poor Juan, he trades fishing trips etc. for old gear and he is such a nice guy that he has lent some of it to other visitors and they break them and bash them around etc. Some suggested he charge to "rent" gear to those that don't have it but this seems kind of overkill but he sure cries the blues when a rod gets crunched...usually because the amigo doens't know how to land a big fish. Like when a guest loses a rapalla it's a sad day as these babies cost 260 pesos each here for a medium sized one which is why it's good to bring your own lures down and an extra to tip your guide with. Now that Juan has a few rods and reels, all his buddies are suffering from reel envy and want one too....so they stand a chance at winning the prize. It very interesting here...when someone gets something...everybody wants one...like one year it was those little push scooter and suddenly there were like 50 of em.....now it's those kiddie motorcyles...a couple years ago it was hot dog stands....fads are crazy here and very expensive for the parents who feel they HAVE to buy their kid what their compadres kid has.
Thanks so much Paulina for the info on prices...that helps alot for when someone offers to sell us one, to know what the going price is mas o menos. I still think it's a better deal for guys or gals that have extra gear to come down and Juan or his pals will take you out fishing for the day in exchange...a bargain when I see what charters go for in baja these days.
We have limited internet time here so it's hard to search the web for this stuff plus we don't have a credit card to buy it so depend on amigos to help out...but we treat ya right when ya do! gracias amigos

Shari, I have a set-up that I would be willing to send down that would be good for fishing the Giant sea bass. At least that is what I assume the jackpot fish will be/ what most of the fishermen will be after. It is a pen 6/0. Spooled with fresh 80ob mono. I also have the rod to go with it. The rod has roller guides so as to make retrieve of a large fish easier. I bought the rod and reel several years back and have never had occasion to use it. Both were used at the time, but in good shape, and I put new line on the reel later.

We could either work out a trade for motel time at a future date or a reasonable price.

Now, to get it down to you.

Sorry, I just looked at the reel. It is a 9/0:lol:
