BOLA regulars: Looking for info about Joe Mayer from Canada!

Has anyone heard any news about a Joe Mayer from Canada?

He and his wife Ritva have been snow birds these past few years; they park their rig near the turtle tanks...

I'm looking for confirmed news -- not rumors.

Thanks.

Since B-mama got your attention I'm looking for a long lost friend also.
I read that Norm Cole bought a house in Bola. Anybody know him? I think he retired for Orange Coast College which is where I met him. I went on my first Baja trip with him and got my scuba cert from him. Very cool guy!
I take rumors or facts.

hey Fishbuck - good luck with your inquiry. I don't know Norm but - oddly enough - I teach at a community college just down the road from OCC. My cousin still teaches at OCC - I'll ask her if she knows your Norm.

Our friend Joe Mayer has indeed passed away - I just got off the telephone with his wife Ritva.

Some of you may have, through the years, met gregarious Joe (originally from Israel) and elegant Ritva (originally from Finland) at one of Antonio and Bety's parties. He was often seen pedaling on his bicycle - or else out in on the bay in his zodiac, catching fish for his beloved cat. A former mechanic, he was one of those folks who always helped out if help was needed. Our five-year-old son loved him for his patience and good humor.

Joe passed away in early April, in Canada - a victim of a heart attack incurred while he was helping a friend with his boat.

We'll miss him.

I am reminded once again of the strong ties we have made through the years down in Baja. Special place, special people.
