Busted on the Beach ?
NO, But I thought so for a few minutes today.
One of the things that were put up in the Campo before Easter Break were signs outlining the laws regarding beach usage and prohibiting motorized
vehicles on the Beach. Signs side by side in English and Spanish which all of the vehicles ignored. Fines up to 500 times the minimum wage.
Although the Delegado has said that they lack enforcement personnel for extensive coverage, he did say anyone caught would be fined.
Early this p.m, I'm sitting in the Samurai on a completely deserted beach reading while the Spouse is out walking and playing with the dogs in the
Estero.
Off from the North, two big Quads roar up and stop just behind me. Two guys dressed completely in Black with body-armor and AFI stenciled on the
back. Both armed with Semi-Auto pistols, Handcuffs and all of the other stuff. M16s with Telescoping Stocks slung over their backs. They just sit
there talking to each other and ignoring me. Finally, I say "Buenas Tardes". One of them looks around as if he didn't know I was there, says "Buenas
Tardes", turns around and goes back to talking to his Buddy. After another few minutes, they ride off.
Looking for "Dumb" Drug runners, I guess. Who else would try moving contraband midday ?
Better than being nailed by the Beach Enforcement, though.

Bill, I presume you were on Shell Island when that happened?
Hotschott had an exprerience out on the island (a mile south of your place)with the military sneaking up on him, wife, and DOG... The dog attacked one
of the soldiers!!!
They saw his camo shade cover and thought it could be druggies waiting for their boat to show up?!
Anyway, the army guys apologized for scaring them and didn't blame their big dog for the attack... I think it is lucky they didn't shoot the dog! Of
course you do need bullets to shott, right?

Guns on the Beach
About six years ago I booked a few nights at the Rosarito Beach Hotel, just for old times sake. I used to stop there in the sixtys and the hotel
was pretty much all there was. Now it is three miles of tawdry shops and a huge Pemex plant north of town spewing out black smoke 24/7..... Was
turned off by the eighteen year olds on the beach with M-16s. If it's that dangerous I just keep on going south..... This used to be a beautiful
stop on the drive south. Don't know where I'm going with this, so I will just shut-up now.

On the Beach
No, actually I was not out on the Penninsula. I'm not about to drive the distance necessary to cross over on DRY land just to let the dogs run. I
have NEVER drive through Salt-Soaked Slush whether I was driving an ATV, Truck or Jeep.
When the AFI Quads came roaring out of the North around the "Ill-fated and never finished" Beach Bar, I was sitting on the beach just below the most
Southerly Casa. They certainly weren't courteous to me and there were no boats of any kind in sight.

CaboRon....just a clarification. The Mexican Military currently uses the H&K (Heckler & Koch) German made G-3 Assault Rifle in 7.62 NATO
caliber as the standard shoulder arm. The H&K is being replaced by the Mexican made FX-05 Xiuhocatl (Fire Serpent in the Nahuatl language) in 5.56
NATO caliber. |

Mexican Firepower
The AFI agents were carrying CAR-15s.
Every common soldier I've seen at the checkpoints are STILL carrying the FN-FALs so old and polished so many times that the original finish is gone.
G-3s do seem to be a common weapon among the elite troops.

From what I hear, many of those Feds and Hummers are subsidized by the US DEA to stop the flow of drugs into the states...yet at one drug landing
area I know of the Feds look the other way because they've been paid off. Our tax dollars hard at work...

Another Ugly Plastic Rifle
Supposedly a copy of the HK G36, but HK decided against suing for patent infringement.
