Speaking of dead stuff on the beach
I read Paulina's hilarious post about dead whales on the beach, and it reminded me of something we saw on the beach a while back. I may have posted
this on the old Amigos board, but anyway..We , that is my family have had a place on the Pacific side since 1980. It is about 3 miles South of San
Antonio Del Mar. (Colonet area).
We walked down to the beach one morning and found a dead Mountain Lion washed up on the beach. He hadn't been dead for long as he wasn't decomposing
yet. He was huge. I would guess his total length was over 8 feet nose to tip of tail. His body and feet were real big. This was a mature Lion. I
couldn't find any marks or injuries on him. I don't have the slightest idea what happened, or how he got there. I'm sure we took photos, but I don't
know what happened to them. Too bad we didn't have cellphone cameras. This was at least 20 years ago.
The area, even then, was mostly farming or cattle. The nearest mountainous terrain was miles to the East It is common to see dead stuff on the
beach. Whales, SeaLions, lots of birds, but I never saw any Lions before or since.

somewhat related-article this morning about a whale recently killed up alaska way.they found an old self-detonating projectile embedded in it's
blubber-was from a whale gun they use to use a hundred years ago.they figured where it hit, it went off but didn't do too much damage. estimates of
whale's age are 115-130 years old!

Real smart they killed a 120 year old whale to study it?

It was killed by some Alaskan villagers who have permits (10 villages) to kill 255 over a 5-year period. The article stated that some whales could
live 200 years.

cat probably got hit by a knucklehead illegally riding his/her ATV on the beach. I think the offender lives at that new Loreto megadevelopment.

Hell, I've seen fat white mammals splayed all over the beaches of Baja....just laying there, or sometimes moving a flipper to grab another cool
one....I believe they are likely from the gringous fattus fishermanous species or else the touristas annoyas species....didn't check them for imbedded
ordinance but sometimes needed to borrow a lighter or gas....
