Loreto ramp(s) update

This morning they had the rebar laid out for the next section. It looked like they would pour the concrete today, but by early afternoon, with the tide rising, they were measuring the depth under the rebar, then chipping out the substrate with a pick axe between the rebar, and removing it by the handful. Still, several folks I talked to think it will be open by Saturday.

Meanwhile, news of the proposed/rumored ramp-to-be at colonia Zaragosa...I've been told that someone offered the ejido $300,000 for the property. And it sold. So no ramp there. Also, the defunct resort on the south end of the colonia has also sold.

I was listening to a Padre's game on the radio last weekend and the Baja California Tourism Board was advertising Loreto. The thing that caught my ear is they were touting the water skiing opportunities.

Get ready to share that ramp with newbie boat drivers. The wind should make it a lot of fun!!

I once launched a ski boat and took off with the drain plugs out. Just made it back and drove it right up the ramp (forget the trailer) before it sunk.

Isn't water skiing a lake activity?

I wouldn't worry about a ski boats in Loreto if I were you. However, many years ago we hauled ours down, camped at El Requeson and skiied in the bay there. It was fantastic skiing over dozens of huge rays and watching the fish dart around you! Nice smooth water and very salty, which makes for good bouyancy! We also used to ski in the bay at Juncalito.:tumble:

Oh I'm not worried, I won't be there. It's certainly a sign of the times though. If that's what people want so be it. I just don't want to hear any claims of eco-friendly water skiing or jet skis, nor bellyaching when the sea life seeks quieter, cleaner waters. I bet those rays you skiied over really wanted to stick it to you, so to speak. But you had a nice time, that's good.

I have to admit, jet skiis are fun and water skiing is fun, but in Loreto?

The joy of the town is the tranquility, the marine life coming as close as they dare, the chance to swim at beaches with clear and clean turquoise water. I will be very sad if my morning coffee in Loreto is disturbed with the yahoo-ing of water-skiers and jet skis.

Call me selfish, but I want Loreto to be as I found it years ago: very simple, very friendly, very tranquil. Mulege anyone?

I just got back from the ramp and they have poured the section that had the rebar shown in Don Alleys pic. They were in the process of removing the last of the concrete on the north side. I guess its possible that it could be poured by Thursday of Friday, but that would leave almost no cure time if there planning to use it for the tourny on Saturday.

How many boats can be launched/recovered simultaneously? (I hate spelling that word).

Bump..

Any further update on the last section of the ramp.. as July 1st is fast approching.

Don..You have launched before at the ramp. Do see much improvement as it going further out so there is not the big "drop-off" as before?

If you look at this pick, taken at a very low tide, you can see how far the ramp goes. So at such a low tide you'll probably back the trailer wheels past the new concrete. There does not seem to be a drop-off. Yet. Seems to me it goes out no farher than the old ramp.

I think I screwed up starting another thread. Sorry.

The ramp is being built by a company from La Paz that specializes in building ramps. From what I could see, they were doing an excellant job. Even coating the rebar with a special paint to ward off rusting. I think it will be much better than the old ramps. Only problem is, why now ---what with three tournaments coming up in the next three weeks. Meanwhile, launching is being done on the north side of La Pinta (now called by another name as it sold). Both main streets were torn up at the same time too---Salvieterra and Juarez. Not great planning on the part of the town, but.......

Sharky,

La Pinta did not sell it is the same ol' same ol' with a new staff of incompetents, I mean management. Its called the Desert Inn now but the government still runs it and their head office is still in Ensenada, all Bancomer accounts the same and with the same name! Their DBA is the only thing that changed.

I have two captains who lost their trucks to the beach water gods. One yesterday one last sunday while launching.

The timing on this ramp repair is interesting but I vented on my original thread on this ramp which I posted in the fishing section. Maybe you wanna read it. The powers that be are far more interested in pleasing the super wealthy and catering to their yachts than they are serving the very people who pay them. We Loretanos haven't forgotten that the marina ad malecon was a gift from the government of Ex Pres. Salinas de Gortari. In 2001 fonatour took it when they started construction on the floating dock to accommodate the cruise ships. The plaque at the North side of the ramp just to the right of the access road says it all (the one that the drunk guy was sleeping under during the last Gevernor's cup tournament), delivered to the people in 1992. It now has an APIBCS sign but they failed to cover over the text stating it belongs to the people. Now the people need to prevent themselves from losing it and everythig else!

chit the only thing those cruise ship people do is come in here to use my friggin bathroom! no buy nada, what a bunch of crap literally...well on cruise ship days my bano "no sirve" OK?

Sharky didn't know yu were in town, I;m busy as hell work here mon through sat from 3pm to 9pm don't be a stranger.
