Boat Fire L:a Paz
We have a large 70-80' Power boat on fire now that has been towed out of Marina Palmira, No one seems to know the name of the boat yet, but someone
has said that it is owned by the Nephew of President Calderon. Will have more info when I know.

I saw all that black smoke across the Bay--thought it was at the refinery.

Oh that really is sad. Please post any updates as soon as you can. Where any neighboring boats damaged? Any idea of the cause?

I had a partial view from the hill across from the Marina Palmira. The vessel on fire appeared to be at the west end of a row of boats toward the
south end of the Marina.
It was one hellacious fire, flames going up as high as the adjacent masts, black smoke billowing up and blowing toward Costa Baja. It seems to me
that the adjacent boats had to have suffered some damage but I don't know that for a fact.
A tug boat arrived on the scene and somehow the heroes manning it got the stricken vessel out of the marina and into the bay. Because of the smoke I
couldn't see how it was managed, but after getting the boat out of the Marina they moved it south (toward town) and wedged it up against the
breakwater on the bay side. The bomberos brought in water trucks and kept a steady stream of water on it. I think it took about five hours to bring
it under control.
The Sunday edition of the SudCalifornio should have a full account of the fire. I hope everyone working that fire was wearing a respirator because
there had to be a lot of evil s--t in that smoke.

Not the hull, but there are 4 diesel engines, 2 big ones and 2 small ones. I would think they are salvageable for at least some of the parts. And, as
pointed out by motoged, that's a dandy ladder.
