Ford Recalls Over 1 Million Vehicles

Hope this doesn't affect any Nomads--

Ford is recalling nearly 1.2 million vehicles, including certain F-450 and F-550 Super Duty trucks. The recall was made because a faulty sensor could cause the vehicles' engines to stall.

The recall covers Ford F-450 and F-550 trucks with 7.3-liter diesel engines, Excursion sport utility vehicles and E-Series vans from model years 1997 through 2003, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Ford produces the Ford F-450 and F-550 at its Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville and produced the Excursion at the plant before the vehicle was discontinued in September 2005.

According to the NHTSA, dealers will replace faulty sensors free of charge beginning Dec. 17. Owners can contact Ford at 866-436-7332. The recall number is 07S57.

Wow, I wonder what kind of sensor that is that's peculiar to the 450s and 550s that arent on the 250s and 350s? A few of us have that same engine.

Read on another site that it is the problamatic Cam Positioning Sensor. I guess I'm lucky with my 1997 as I haven't had my go out yet.

Doesn't make sense that the 250's and 350's aren't involved.

Oh by the way, Ford says they don't have near enough sensors and they will be replacing these based on the age and mileage of your truck... could be many months before they are done.

From the Associated Press
December 7, 2007

WASHINGTON -- Ford Motor Co. said Thursday that it was recalling 1.17 million trucks, sport utility vehicles and vans to fix an engine sensor that could lead to stalling.

The recalled vehicles are from the 1997-2003 model years with 7.3-liter diesel engines, including the Ford E-Series van, the Excursion full-size sport utility vehicle and the F-450 Super Duty and F-550 Super Duty trucks.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the engine's camshaft position sensor could malfunction intermittently and lead to a stall and potential crash.

The sensor is an electrical component that helps regulate the fuel going into the engine.
