Sorta Baja related
Have you taken a lap top to Baja, not had internet connections, and utilized GoogleEarth? I understand it is possible by storing or "caching" some
part of GoogleEarth in memory.
I would need info about how to do this at a very basic level as my computer skills are still in a process of building.

Hi John,
Yes, I have seen it done... Baja Nomad member 'BillB' (see http://vivabaja.com/vivabaja4 ) showed me satellite images of Baja, zoomable, on his lap top... He was with Corky and Max trying to find a
shortcut across to Hwy. 1 using El Volcan wash, near El Huerfanito a couple years ago.
I can forward email if you wish... Not sure how often Bill checks Nomad, he rarely posts!

Bill, (I'm pretty sure it was the same Bill) accompained Neal Johns and me on a trip last year and was using it also. But I figured Bill had so many
gadgets and toys it was probably through some sort of mobile internet via satellite or something.

Greetings all & happy new year!
There are a few ways you can use GoogleEarth (GE) offline. There is a newer version of GE out, but the way I did it a year ago, was to increase the
GE cache size to 2 gigs (the maximum), and "flew" over the area that we were going to be traveling. Then as long as I didn't turn off my laptop
("sleeping" is ok), the detail remained on my computer. Once I turned off my laptop... I could not seem to access the Cache.
You can try it out at home... fly around a bit, then disconnect from the internet and fly over the same area. 2 gigs is a LOT of information, so you
may be suprized at the size of the area it will retain at maximum resolution.
