You can sign in in northern baja no problem, what you really need to watch out for is those shady dealers. There are plenty of reputable people doing that.

Unfortuately, you worked with the wrong people. Thousand and thousands are using Directv w/o issue throughout Mexico. If you used a credit card, just have them reverse the charges for fraud. Otherwise just don't pay the bill.

It is best is to sign up your self using a US address.

Had Direct TV for years, always with an illegal card though. If you can receive their signal in Mexico legally now, things have changed in the last few years. Even with an American address, if they got the wind of it that you were receiving their signal below the border, you were unceremoniously cut off. Maybe they have a new deal with the Mexican government that allows them to send the signal there. News to me. I have 2 dishes and 2 LNB's available to anyone interested. Went to Starchoice and recommend that highly to anybody. Little pricey, now that the Canadian dollar is at par, but still worth it.

To each their own. I personally wouldn't use a Directv system with a bootleg card. That is theft. They will definetly come at you hard if they "get wind of it." The penalties can be very stiff.

On the other hand, I don't think Directv is too unhappy about paying customers just because they are south of the border.

In my mind anyway there is a huge difference between the two scenarios.

That is for sure...one is you are stealing from Directv...the other is Directv is stealing from the Mexican Government....

Edit: another way to look at it is...if they cannot provide the service then you cannot stealing it...
